Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an organic solvent-free coating composition of high gloss, dryability, and hardness, consisting chiefly of a polymer emulsion prepared by dissolving nitrocellulose in a vinyl monomer mixture, dispersing the resulting solution in water to form an emulsion, and then by carrying out polymerzation.
CONSTITUTION: In a monomer mixture consisting of an appropriate combination of vinyl monomers selected from (meth)acrylic acid or its ester, styrene, etc., is dissolved 3W55wt%, based on the weight of said mixture, of nitrocellulose followed by dispersion in water to produce an emulsion. The resulting emulsion is then subjected to plymerization and, if required, other ingredients such as another aqueous synthetic resin for glossy coating, a thicknening agent, a pigment, an antifoaming agent, etc., are incorporated to give the objective composition. This composition is suitable as a coating for walls, floors, ceilings, etc., which are composed of mortar, concrete, or gypsum.
