This electrode 20 is held at the resistance value (10<5>-10<7>OMEGA.cm) lower than that of the cloth 21. A power source 24 which applies prescribed voltage, for example, 1,000-volt DC voltage, is connected to a transfer device 9 so that said device is also usable as a charger. Thereby, the contamination of the atmosphere and apparatus with ozone as with a corona discharger or the like is obviated, and damaging the photoreceptor as with rollers is obviated as well, thus the durability of the photoreceptor is improved.
