Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain constant pressurization after the first charging and independently of any change in the plate thickness by providing a pressing tool made of synthetic resin between the plate assembly and a side wall of a battery container and pressing the plate assembly through inflation of the tool with air. CONSTITUTION:A pressing tool 9 of a synthetic resin such as polyvinyl or polyethylene the size of which is nearly identical to the plate is inserted between the inside wall of the container 6 and the end negative plate of the plate assembly 5 constituted with a negative plate 1, separator 2, glass mat 3, and positive plate 4. An electrolyte 10 is filled in the container 6, then the first charging is completed, and air is fed from an inlet 7 of the pressing tool 9, and the tool is inflated to press the plate assembly 5. Then the pressing tool 9 and container 6 are pressed and touched together at the upper position 11 of the container 6, the welding part 8 of the pressing tool 9 and the container are welded at the upper position 11', and simultaneously the inlet 7 is cut off.
