Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Trihalopropane derivatives of formula I (X is halogen; R1 is lower alkyl; R2, R3 are H, lower alkyl or both of them incorporate to form -CH= CH-CH=CH-, -CH2COCH2CH2-; A is CH2, CH2CH2, CH=CH, CO, where, when A carries hydrogen atoms, at least one of them may be substituted with lower alkyl or nitrile).
EXAMPLE: 1-(1-Methoxy-3,3,3-trichloropropyl)-2-hydroxypyridine.
USE: Fungicide for agriculture and horticulture: they show excellent antifungal activity against various kinds of pest fungi concerning plant diseases and almost no injury to plants.
PREPARATION: The reaction of a 3-alkoxy-1,1,1,3-tetraholopropane of formula II with a heterocyclic compound of formula III is conducted in an inert solvent such as acetone in the presence or absence of an acid acceptor such as sodium hydroxide to produce the compound of formula I.
