Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A substituted cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester of formula I (A is H, cyano or ethynyl).
EXAMPLE: 3-Phenoxybenzyl 2,2-dimethyl-3-thiocyanatomethylcyclopropanecarboxylate.
USE: Insecticide having higher insecticidal activity than known pyrethroidal insecticides, rapid action, low toxicity to man and cattle, and sufficient residual effect.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting an ester of formula II (X is halogen) with sodium thiocyanate or potassium thiocyanate, if necessary in a solvent such as acetone, benzene, etc. The reaction is pref. carried out at 60W180°C under stirring for the smooth reaction.
