Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A carcinostatic substance TF-350 and a salt thereof. Appearance: Whitish gray W light brown powder. Melting point: Indefinite, and begins to decompose at about 110°C and remarkably decomposes at 180°C or above. Physiological actions: Capable of inhibiting the multiplication of murine Ehrlich ascitic cancers and having the immunological activating action. Solubility: Solble in water and insoluble in methanol, ethanol, etc. Color reactions: Positive to the Molisch, phenol-sulfuric acid, anthrone-sulfuric acid reactions, etc. and negative to the ninhydrin reaction.
USE: A carcinostatic agent characterized by the slight side effects.
PROCESS: A microorganism, e.g. Fusobacterium nucleatum TF-031 strain, of the genus Fusobacterium, is cultivated under anaerobic conditions, and a hydrophiclic organic solvent is added to the resultant supernatant liquid. The resultant fraction having the carcinostatic action of the formed precipitate is then treated with a proteolytic enzyme to collect the fraction of the carcinostatic substance TF-350.
