Abstract
PURPOSE: To determine the concentration of microorganism, by culturing the microorganism in a medium containing a main carbon source at a concentration within a specific range under anaerobic conditions, and measuring the concentration of the produced ethanol.
CONSTITUTION: The dissolved oxygen concentration of the medium 8 containing a main carbon source at a concentration of 10W50g/l, a nitrogen source, inorganic salts, vitamins, etc. is reduced to zero, and ethanol-producing microorganism is cultured in the medium under anaerobic conditions e.g. by introducing nitrogen gas, etc. through the pipe 5 to the medium. Ethanol produced in the cultivator 3 is sent to the detector 1 with a carrier gas 6 through the "Teflon " tube 7, and its concentration is determined continuously by the detector 1.
