Abstract

PURPOSE: A polymer obtained from an organochlorosilane having polymerizable groups, monomers polymerizable with the above groups and ammonia is spun into fiber and the fiber is calcined in an ammonia atmosphere to produce high- quality inorganic fiber.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between an organochlorosilane having polymerizable groups such as vinyl groups, monomers polymerizable with the above organosilane such as styrene or vinyl chloride and ammonia is conducted in an organic solvent to prepare a mixture of a polycondensate containing silazene groups and ammonium chloride. The polycondensate is heated into a solution and the solution is made into fiber. Then, the resultant fibrous polymer is calcined in an ammonia atmosphere.
