PURPOSE:To rationalize the process of printing, by calibrating the minimum value of the mean value of values, obtained by scanning a printing plate for offset printing by a photoelectric detecting element, and the detection value of the terminal part of the printing plate as the quantities of reflected light at a picture-line contact-print part and a no-picture-line part. CONSTITUTION:A printing plate 20 for offset printing is scanned more than once by a photoelectric detector 13, consisting of photosensor Sn, at prescribed intervals. A printer number, etc., is inputted on a keyboard 47 to specify plate size, the number of an ink adjustment key, an interval, etc., in an RAM46 and an ROM45. The output 41 of a photosensor 13 is stored in the RAM46 by one ink adjustment key at every time through a multiplexer 42, and A/D converter 43, an input-output control circuit 49, a bus, and a CPU, and each time the sensor S0 measures a calibration mark 23 and the terminal 201 of the printing plate once, the mean value of the past several measured values is calculated and stored in the RAM46 to use the minumum value of the mean value as the calibrated value of a picture-line contact-print part; and the front and rear terminal parts of the printing plate 20 are regarded as calibration areas, and scanned values by the sensors Sn in the areas are used as the calibrated value of a no-picture-line part.
