Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain substrates having partially different orientation characteristics by forming a film of a horizontally orienting material in the prescribed regions of the electrode substrate surfaces of a liquid crystal display device and forming a film of a vertically orienting material in other regions then rubbing both film surfaces in one direction. CONSTITUTION:A film of a horizontal orienting material 3 of polyimide or the like is formed over the entire electrode forming surface of an electrode substrate A for a liquid crystal display device, and the parts other than electrodes 1 are removed by photoetching. Thence, a film 4a of a silane type vertical orienting material is formed in other regions, after which the entire part of both film surfaces is rubbed in one direction, whereby the orientation characteristic of arranging liquid crystals in one direction is given on the film surface of the material 3. Thereby, the electrode substrate having the film 3a in the prescribed regions and the film 4a in all other regions is obtained. When liquid crystal display electrode is produced by using such electrode substrates, the liquid crystal that can perform displaying which is required to be displayed at all times without requiring voltage application is obtd.
