Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the colorability and abrasion resistance of a granular fertilizer and to reduce the coloring cost by forming an aq. solution of a condensation product of urea and formaldehyde, that contains an added colorant, and treating a granular fertilizer material with this aq. solution.
CONSTITUTION: This method comprises forming a condensation product of urea and formaldehyde (UF condensation product), that contains a colorant, as an aq. solution and treating a granular fertilizer material in this aq. solution to form a very thin coating layer on the surface of each of the fertilizer material granules. At this time, the colored coating layer on each of the granules can simply be formed e.g. by heating the granular fertilizer material beforehand, then spraying the surface of each of the fertilizer material granules with the UF condensation product aq. solution and rotating the sprayed granules for a specified time with a rotary drum. Since this coating layer is firmly stuck to the surface of each of the fertilizer material granules, peeling of the coating film from the granule can be prevented from occurring. Further, since such a very thin coating layer is sufficient to fulfill the purpose, the colorability and abrasion resistance of a granular fertilizer can be improved and the coloring cost can be reduced.
