Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the stiffness of a partition wall by forming an EGR passage on the partition wall partitioning a surge tank from a capacity section in case where the surge tank is formed in the upstream of a curved intake air passage which is formed with the capacity section acting as a vacuum tank.
CONSTITUTION: In four engine, a lower intake manifold 4 in a form of 'L' comprising four No.1 intake passage 3 each of which is independent by cylinder, is connected to each intake port 2 opening independently to each cylinder, and an upper intake manifold 6 comprising four No.2 intake passage 5 each of which is independent to one another, is connected to the upstream side of No.1 intake passage 3. The aforesaid upper intake manifold 6 is curved toward the side of an engine body 1 so as to be connected with a surge tank 7 extending in parallel with the direction of a cylinder line. And in the upper intake manifold 6, the curved section of No.2 intake passage 5 is formed monolithically with a capacity section 15 which is adjacent to the surge tank 7 by way of a thickened partition wall 14, so as to form an EGR passage 31 in the partition wall 14.
