Abstract

PURPOSE:To use only one kind of substrate, eliminate the need for interconnection between two kinds of insulating substrates and contrive higher reliability and productivity, by mounting driving ICs for heat generating resistors directly on an insulating substrate provided with the resistors, and leading out external leads for a recording power supply and input/output of various signals directly from end parts of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of heat generating resistors 2 are provided on an insulating substrate 1, and driving ICs 31-35 are mounted on the substrate 1 in correspondence with the resistors 2. Electrical connection between the ICs 31-35 and aluminum wirings 7 connected to the resistors 2 and electrical connection between the ICs 31-35 and external leads 5 provided at one end part of the substrate 1 are made by bonding wires 6. At the other end part of the substrate 1, external leads 4 are connected to power supply side terminals VH of the resistors 2. The external leads 5 are connected respectively to DATA IN, CLOCK, LATCH, VDD, GH, STROBE and DATA OUT terminals, for inputting and outputting various signals to and from the driving ICs 31-35. Thus, interconnection between two substrates is omitted, and an inexpensive and highly reliable thermal head can be realized.
