Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a beam of a good quality together with a small-sized device providing, on the periphery of an accelerating tube, a superconductive coil made of a superconductive material formed in the shape of a solenoid and a cooling device for cooling the superconductive coil to a fixed temperature. CONSTITUTION:On the outer periphery of an accelerating tube 1, a superconductive coil 3 in the shape of a solenoid is formed of a superconductive material and a cooling medium container 4 covering the superconductive coil 3 is provided for cooling the superconductive coil 3. The particles passing through the accelerating tube 1 in its tube direction are accelerated by an electric field generated in an accelerating cavity X. On the other hand, when the superconductive coil 3 cooled by liquid nitrogen is made conductive, a magnetic beam in the direction of particle acceleration is generated inside the accelerating tube 1. Thereby, emanating force expanding in a direction normal to the direction of particle acceleration is sppressed so as to lead the particles to be focused. Further, a charged particle accelerating tube 1 itself cooled to a fixed temperature together with the superconductive coil 3 so as to stabilize the accelerating condition of the frequency or the like in the accelerating tube 1 and to improve the accuracy of acceleration control.
