- 복수의 인접한 섬유층을 포함하며, 각 섬유층은 중합 물질로 적어도 부분적으로 덮인 표면을 갖는 섬유들을 포함하며, 상기 섬유들은 중합 물질이 섬유 표면과 주로 직접 접촉되도록 주로 섬유 표면 마감재를 함유하지 않으며; 섬유 복합체는 섬유 표면과 중합 물질 사이에 이러한 섬유 표면 마감재가 존재하는 섬유 표면 마감재로 주로 덮인 섬유 표면을 갖는 이와 대등한 섬유 복합체의 항복 응력보다 더 큰 항복 응력을 갖는, 섬유 복합체.
- 제1항에 있어서,
상기 복합체는 약 1.5lb/ft2(7.32kg/㎡)이하의 면 밀도를 갖는 복합체에 대해 ASTM D790에 의한 측정시 적어도 7.50ksi(~51.71MPa)의 항복 응력을 갖는, 섬유 복합체.
- 제1항에 있어서,
상기 복합체는 약 1.5lb/ft2(7.32kg/㎡)이하의 면 밀도를 갖는 복합체에 대해 ASTM D790에 의한 측정시 적어도 약 9.0ksi(~62.05MPa)의 항복 응력을 갖는, 섬유 복합체.

복합체는 국방부 시험법 스탠다드 MIL-STD-662F에 따른 9mm 발사체에 대해 적어도 약 1750feet/sec(fps)(533.40m/s)의 V50 값을 갖는, 섬유 복합체.
- 제9항에 있어서,
섬유 표면은 중합 물질이 섬유 표면과 실질적으로 직접 접촉되도록 섬유 표면과 중합 물질 사이에 섬유 표면 마감재를 실질적으로 함유하지 않는, 섬유 복합체.
- 섬유 복합체는 적어도 2개의 인접한 섬유층을 포함하며, 각 섬유층은 중합 물질로 적어도 부분적으로 덮인 표면을 갖는 섬유들을 포함하며, 상기 섬유들은 중합 물질이 섬유 표면과 주로 직접 접촉되도록 주로 섬유 표면 마감재를 함유하지 않으며; 섬유 복합체는 약 1.5lb/ft2(7.32kg/㎡)이하의 면 밀도를 갖는 복합체에 대해 ASTM D790에 의한 측정시 적어도 7.50ksi(~51.71MPa)의 항복 응력을 가지며,
주로 섬유 표면 마감재를 함유하지 않는 표면을 갖는 복수의 중합 섬유들을 제공하는 단계; 선택적으로 섬유 표면을 처리하여 후속적으로 적용되는 중합 물질의 섬유 표면에 대한 섬유 표면 흡착성, 결합성 또는 접착성을 증진시키는 단계; 상기 섬유의 적어도 일부에 중합 물질을 적용하여 중합 물질을 섬유 표면상에 또는 섬유 표면에 흡착, 결합 또는 접착시키는 단계; 상기 중합 물질을 상기 섬유들에 적용하기 전 또는 후에 상기 섬유로부터 복수의 섬유 플라이들을 제조하는 단계; 및 상기 복수의 섬유 플라이들을 컨솔리데이션하여 섬유 복합체를 제조하는 단계를 포함하는, 섬유 복합체 형성 방법.
- 제12항에 있어서,
상기 선택적으로 섬유 표면을 처리하여 후속적으로 적용되는 중합 물질의 섬유 표면에 대한 섬유 표면 흡착성, 결합성 또는 접착성을 증진시키는 단계가 수행되는, 섬유 복합체 형성 방법.
- 제12항에 있어서,
섬유 표면 처리는 플라즈마 처리 또는 코로나 처리를 포함하는, 섬유 복합체 형성 방법.
- 컨솔리데이션된 복수의 섬유층들을 포함하며, 각 섬유층들은 약 7g/데니어이상의 강인성 및 약 150g/데니어이상의 인장 모듈러스를 갖는 복수의 섬유들을 포함하며, 여기서 각 섬유층은 중합 바인더 물질로 적어도 부분적으로 함침되며, 상기 중합 바인더 물질은 실질적으로 상기 섬유들을 코팅하며, 그리고 상기 중합 바인더 물질은 각 섬유층의 약 7-20중량%로 포함되며; 패널은 약 1.5lb/ft2(7.32kg/㎡)이하의 면 밀도를 갖는 복합체에 대해 ASTM D790에 의한 측정시 적어도 7.50ksi(~51.71MPa)의 항복 응력 및 국방부 시험법 스탠다드 MIL-STD-662F에 따른 9mm 발사체에 대해 적어도 약 1750feet/sec(fps)(533.40m/s)의 V50 값을 갖는, 복합체.
