Abstract
Provided is a magnetic disk substrate polishing method that allows increasing surface accuracy while suppressing drops in polishing efficiency. The polishing method provided by the present invention includes a polishing step of polishing the magnetic disk substrate by supplying a polishing slurry S1 and a polishing slurry S2 in this order on a same polishing platen. The polishing slurry S1 has an abrasive action index W1 expressed as the product of an average aspect ratio A1 and an average particle diameter d1 of an abrasive P1 contained in the polishing slurry S1. The polishing slurry S2 has an abrasive action index W2 expressed as the product of an average aspect ratio A2 and an average particle diameter d2 of an abrasive P2 contained in the polishing slurry S2. The above W1 and W2 satisfy 0.1 < W2/W1 < 0.8.
