Abstract

The subject of the application is a method of biofortifying vegetables with iodine grown using the traditional, soilless and hydroponic method, consisting in the use of a preparation containing an iodine compound to irrigate the crops several times during the growing season of vegetable plants, characterized by the fact that an 8-hydroxy acid solution is used to fertigate the crops. -7-iodo-5-quinolinesulfonic acid at a concentration of 0.0005 to 0.040 mmol/l, with the dosing of the 8-hydroxy-7-iodo-5-quinolinesulfonic acid solution starting after the plants emerge or 2 to 3 weeks after planting the seedlings on permanent place, continues continuously in soilless and hydroponic crops and at intervals of 5 to 14 days in soil crops depending on the length of the plant vegetation period, and ends with the last harvest of consumable plant parts, while during the entire vegetation period the total dose of the compound expressed as iodine is from 0.25 to 10.0 kg l/ha of the area of crops with a short vegetation period and from 1 to 40 kg l/ha of the area of crops with a long vegetation period. The application also covers the use of 8-hydroxy-7-iodo-5-quinoline sulfonic acid for biofortification of vegetables with iodine in traditional, soilless and hydroponic crops.
