Use of ammonia production residues from calcium cyanamide.

It is known that ammonia gas is split off from calcium cyanamide by the action of water or steam at elevated temperature and a residue is obtained, the dry substance of which consists essentially of carbonate of lime and about 150/0 carbon. This residue, which has the form of a sludge, contains both components in an extremely finely divided form. In large-scale operations it is extremely annoying because of its considerable quantities, because only under special local conditions it can be accommodated without considerable costs and difficulties.

As it dries out, it turns into a blackish, loose dust that is easily blown away by the wind and creates an unbearable nuisance for the area around the factory. In addition, the sludge is also very annoying because it leaves the apparatus hot, i.e. steaming and, despite the best nitrogen separation, still after ammonia

To produce the Rob mixture, 4'71 parts by weight of the above lime flour are ground with 1 part by weight of clay and burned in the usual way in a shaft furnace with white heat until continuous sintering is achieved. It is important that the hazelnut-sized clinker leaves the kiln, which is easy to achieve with a rotary kiln
