<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

CONTROL DEVICE FOR SEWING MACHINES, RETRACTOR /; TO EMBROIDER AND OTHERS BY MEANS OF WHICH THE WHOLE MACHINE WITH ITS ORDER CAN BE CARRIED EASILY *
Present-day sewing and embroidery machines are usually delivered in the shop as devices which have to be placed / freely on a table so that they can be operated by hand, or else, for the control of which a customary frame is used. sewing machine, a frame which, of course, must first be separated from the sewing machine mounted on it.
The operation of the machine by hand determines rapid operator fatigue and is, moreover, much too slow, while in other cases the separation of the sewing machine from its frame causes a considerable waste of time, and, moreover, for the control of the retracting machine, the transmission belt must first of all be brought to the suitable length.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
As a sewing and embroidery machine has almost become essential in every household for the repair of linen, stockings, etc., it is desirable to have the machine at your disposal at all times, and to be able to take it with you. travel or vacation; but, for that, one cannot keep the attachment of the machine on its own drive frame because of the large encom. of this, and the fact that the frame is heavy to transport.
In order to achieve this result, it is therefore necessary to make an arrangement, by virtue of which the machine, with its control members, can be easily transported and be ready for use without requiring long conversions. According to the present invention, this result is obtained by the fact that the machine is, for its transport, placed in a portable box in which also take place a drive pedal and a handwheel actuated by this pedal. Machine once removed from this cabinet is placed on a suitable support for use and is operated by means of a flexible shaft, belt or other organ.
The cover of the cabinet is preferably used as a support table for the machine, and for this purpose it can be removed and fixed above the cabinet, and to the latter at any determined height.
The accompanying drawings show two embodiments of machines established according to the invention.
Figures 1 and a show, in front and side view, the interior of the box in the transport position of the machine.
Figure 3 shows the machine assembled with its control in running order, and Figure 4, another embodiment, seen in elevation, the machine also being in its running position,

The open cabinet is placed vertically on the table, and the pedal 5 is placed in the operating position.
One end of a flexible shaft 15 is then suitably mounted on the journal 11 of the roller 10, while its other end is coupled with the drive shaft of the machine B. The use of the flexible shaft has the advantage of making the operation of the machine completely independent of the height of the table and of allowing movements of this machine on this table, so that the machine can always be placed in the working position the most appropriate taking into account the conditions of sunshine or any other.
The journal 11 could receive its drive from the roller 8 as well by toothed wheels as by friction members or any other drive device; likewise, instead of controlling the machine B by a flexible shaft, a belt or any other drive member could be useful. If the machine B is driven by means of a belt, the roller 10 can be omitted and the belt can be mounted directly, through the cover of the box, between the roller 8 and the handwheel of the machine, the latter then being placed near the edge of its support table.
To avoid having to resort to a special table, the device can also be set up so that the cover of the box can be movable and fixed to the box itself at any desired distance above the bottom of the latter, in order to avoid the need for a special table. that the cover acts as a support for the maohine in its position of use.
The method of fixing the lid of the box can, of course, (be any; thus, figure 4, it was assumed that the box is made up of two parts: the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
lower part I which receives the mechanized engine and the machine when the latter is not in the position of use, and an upper part II fitting into the lower part I. The lower part 1 comprises a bottom 1 a rear face 12 'and two sides 7.7. The .

. "" "# .... * ¯. Upper part is formed by a cover 11.80 two side faces 7 * 70 and the wall 12 which forms (; '- l'f; .... V" "#" #. mmm,. * ->, the front face in the transport position ,,
To use the machine, the upper part is separated from the lower part and turned 180 so that the front wall 12 now forms the rear face; in this way, the lower and upper parts of the cabinet are opened / both on the same side to enable the actuation of the pedal 15 The upper part is fixed to the lower part by means of pins 17, so that the cover 16 can serve as a support for the machine B.
The drive can be done directly by means of a belt 18 passing through two holes 19 made in this cover.
Of course, with a box of this kind, the drive could also be done by means of a flexible shaft,
The device can also be set up so that the front wall of the cabinet can be removed as shown in figure 2, and the cover can be fixed in height by means of struts, feet, or tie rods which can be fixed. at the bottom

It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the application of the aforementioned provisions to a sewing or embroidery machine and that any other device which is actuated by a drive shaft can be stored.
