Abstract

Aqueous dispersions of vinyl acetate copolymers are converted by spray drying in the presence of anticaking agents into a fine powder which is dispersible in water. The dispersions contain ionic and nonionic emulsifiers and polyvinyl alcohol as protective colloid. The anticaking agent is metered in at the same time as the dispersion, but spatially separated therefrom, in a spray-drying tower; the particle size of the anticaking agent is in the range from 0.01 to 0.5 mu m. The dispersion powder has a long shelf life and good flow properties and is particularly suitable as a binder in dry mixes for polymer-bound plasters.
