Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a woody composite board having a high strength and improved dimensional stability, by treating wood shavings made by an excelsior machine with an aqueous solution of polyethylene glycol, and by mixing the shavings with a binder.
CONSTITUTION: The size of shavings made by an excelsior machine is 20W100 mm long, 2W10 mm wide, and 0.1W0.4 mm thick, preferably 40W80 mm long, 4W6 mm wide, and 0.2W0.3 mm thick to prevent the lowering of strength of the composite board. The shavings thus made are immersed in a 10W60 wt.%, preferably 30W50 wt.% aqueous solution of polyethylene glycol thoroughly, and, if necessary for manufacturing particle board, dried, mixed with a binder and pressed to give a board.
