NEW MATERIAL:A penicillin ester of formula I [R1 is (substituted) aryl, heterocyclic group, or cyclic alkenyl; R2 is H or NH2; R3 is H, halogen, or alkoxy], its acid addition salt, and a compound of formula II (X is halogen).
EXAMPLE: Ampicillin phthalidylidene ethyl ester.
USE: An antibacterial agent and its intermediate. Improved absorbability through the degestive tracts by oral administration, and stability in the absence of enxymes. Although the ester has no antibacterial activity, it is decomposed by enzyme rapidly after administration, and gives high penicillin concentration in blood.
