NEW MATERIAL:A pyrroleacetic acid derivative expressed by formulaI(Ar is p- tolyl or p-chlorophenyl; R1 is methyl, ethyl or together with the other R1 may form ethylene or trmethylene; R2 is H or methyl; R3 is H, methyl or ethyl; R4 is 1W6C alkyl).
EXAMPLE: Methyl-methyl-1-5-[α,α-dimethoxy-(p-methylbenzyl)]pyrrole-2-acetate.
USE: A synthetic intermediate for a 5-aroylpyrrole-2-acetic acid derivative, expressed by formula II, and having remarkable anti-inflammatory action.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula III is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula ArCOCl in the presence of a Lewis acid to give a compound expressed by formula IV, which is then converted into a ketal compound expressed by formula V. The resultant compound expressed by formula V is alkoxylated to give a compound expressed by formula IV, which is then reduced to afford a compound expressed by formula VII.
