Abstract
PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled compound useful as a intermediate for medicine and agricultural chemical and having a specific functional group on pyridine nucleus at relatively low temperature in high yield, by reacting a compound having the specific functional group on the pyridine nucleus with a halogen under light irradiation. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (Y is CN or COZ; Z is OH, lower alkoxy or halogen; Y is preferably CN or COCl) is reacted with a halogen, preferably chlorine gas, preferably in an inert solvent, especially carbon tetrachloride under light irradiation in order to directly subject the above-mentioned raw material to nucleus halogenation to readily provide the aimed compound expressed by formula II (X is halogen), especially useful as an intermediate for herbicide normally at relatively low temperature of ambient temperature - 160 deg.C in high yield.
