本発明は磁気記録媒体に関し、 さらに詳しく は特に優れた電磁変換特性、 滑 り性及び耐久性を有する記憶容量 1 0 0 M B以上の大容量フロッピーディスク に好適な高記録密度用磁気記録媒体に関する。 背景技術
近年、 記憶容量が 1 0 0 M B以上の大容量フ口ッピーディスクが各種機器の 記憶媒体として注目され、 次第に普及してきている。
ところで、 このような大容量フロッピーディスクゃ高密度ディジタルビデオ テープ等に用いる磁気記録媒体では、 記録密度を高めるため、 磁性粉体として 粒径の小さい即ち比表面積の大きい C o含有 r一 F e 2 O 3 、バリウムフェラ イト、 鉄、 合金などの磁性粉体が用いられるようになつてきた。 しかし、 これ ら磁性粉体は分散が極めて難しく 、 凝集粒子の発生、 不十分な充填状態、 不均 質な塗膜表面を引き起こしゃすく 、 このため塗膜( 磁性層) の電磁変換特性が 損なわれ、 さらに滑り性や耐久性の低下を招きやすい、 という欠点をもってい る。
また記録密度向上のために磁性層はの 0 . 5 i m以下の薄層化が図られてお リ、 かつ転送速度の向上のために媒体の走行速度の高速化が進んできているた め、 高周波域での電磁変換特性の向上とともに、 小型低容量の駆動モータでも 安定した長時間の走行が可能なように表面平滑性、 走行安定性、 耐久性に関す る要求が益々厳しくなつてきている。
かかる技術的課題に対し支持体と磁性層の間に滑り性の良好な非磁性の中間 層を設けて支持体の表面粗さの影響を緩和、 解消する試みが知られている。 た とえば、 特開昭 4 9 - 7 5 3 0 5号公報では非磁性基板と磁性層の間に高分子 非磁性層を形成することで、 高密度記録において支持体の傷や突起の影響を回 避することが開示されている。 そして、 このような試みによっても電磁変換特 性の改良は認められたが、 さらに磁性層が薄層化するに従い、 表面性だけでな <走行耐久性等の要求も厳しくなり、 この方法だけでは充分ではなくなった。 この対策として特開昭 6 2 - 1 5 4 2 2 5号公報では 0 . 5 m以下の磁性 層についてそれ以上の厚みで形成する導電性粉末、 潤滑剤等の機能性粉末を含 有した非磁性中間層を用いることが開示されている。 また特開昭 5 9 -2 4 4 3 7号公報には磁性層と非磁性層の少なく とも 1 層にォキシ脂肪酸のエステル を潤滑剤として含有させる記載がある。 また、 その他潤滑剤の例としてはシリ コンオイル、 フッ素オイル、 長鎖脂肪酸、 長鎖脂肪酸アミド等が知られてい る。 更に特開昭 6 2 - 1 8 8 0 1 7号公報では無機粉末の選定等により非磁性 中間層の表面粗さとヤング率を規定する開示がある。 しかしながら、 このよう な非磁性中間層の塗布、 乾燥、 平滑化の工程を磁性層の形成工程と独立分離し て行なう方法では、 表面粗さは改善されるが、 磁性層を塗布する工程において 中間層に傷が入り易く 、 また、 厚みの変動率が高かったり、 走行耐久性が充分 でないなど実用上の問題があつた。
そこでこれらの問題を解決する手段として特開昭 6 3 - 1 9 1 3 1 5号公報 等に開示されているように同時重層塗布方式を用いて下層の非磁性中間層が湿 潤状態にある間に上層の磁性層を塗布する方式が提案された。 しかし、 この方 式によって生産性は実用的なレベルに達したものの、 乾燥時の非磁性中間層と 磁性層の界面の乱れを抑制することが困難で、 目標厚みに対して 5 0 %以上も の厚み変動を生じることがある問題があつた。
この問題を解決する手段としては、 非磁性中間層用塗料の粘弾性挙動を磁性 層用の磁性塗料に類似させることが提案されており、 例えば、 特開平 5— 7 3 8 8 3号公報には無機質粉末を主体とした非磁性中間層用塗料により粘弾性を 磁性塗料に類似させることが可能となり、 同時塗工においての界面の乱れは改 善されるとの開示がある。 しかしながら、 さらに薄層の磁気記録媒体では塗工 の安定性に問題があり歩留まりが充分でなかったり、 非磁性中間層を形成する ためにコストが掛かりすぎる問題があった。 発明の開示
そこで、 非磁性中間層を設けることなく 、 磁性層のみの単層で電気特性、 滑 リ性、 耐久性をバランスよく満足させるための検討も行なわれたが、 前述の高 密度記録を満足できる結果は得られていなかった。 例えば滑り性、 耐久性を向 上させるため、 従来から非磁性の無機粉末を磁性層中に含有させることが行な われているが、 アルミナなどの非磁性粉末は、 滑り性に対しては粒怪が小さい 場合には効果が少なく 、 粒径が大きくなるほど摩擦係数低減効果が増す傾向を 示す。 そして、 粒径を大きく しすぎると磁性層表面の平滑性を損い、 電磁変換 特性を低下させる。 また十分に摩擦係数を下げ得る大きさの粒径では、 耐摩耗 性がかえって低下する、 などの難点がある。
また、 無機粉末のこれらの欠点を改良するため、 脂肪酸ないしは親油基を有 する界面活性剤等で粉末の表面処理を行うなどの試みもあるが、 充分な電磁変 換特性を得るために高度に表面平滑化した媒体では満足できる滑り性を有し走 行安定性の優れたものは未だ得られていない。 また耐久性においても薄層化し た媒体では磁性層中に充填できる潤滑剤の絶対量が不足することから、 所謂油 切れ状態になり走行中に耐久性が極端に低下する等の問題があった。
また特に近年携帯情報通信機器の発展により磁気記録媒体は従来よりも広範 囲の温湿度雰囲気下での耐久性と信頼性が重要になっているが現状では未だ不 十分の状態である。 すなわち従来技術では耐久性を高める目的で長鎖脂肪酸ェ ステル、 特に単官能長鎖脂肪酸エステルが一般に用いられる、 例えばプチルス テアレート、 ブトキシェチルステアレート等を潤滑剤として用いたフロッピー ディスクでは常温では概ね良好な耐久性と走行安定性を示すが高温雰囲気にお ける耐久性に問題があった。 また、 2—へキシルデシルベへネー卜、 2—へキ シルドデシルステアレー卜、 2—ォクチルドデシルステアレート 、 2 —へキシ ルデシルステアレート等の潤滑剤は高温雰囲気下での耐久性は比較的良好であ つたが、 低温域では走行安定性に問題を生じた。 また、 いわゆるブリード現象 を引き起こすなどの問題もあった。
本発明はかかる現状に鑑み為されたもので、 その目的は、 厚さが 0.5 / m以 下の磁性層のみで前述の高密度記録ができ、 従来の非磁性中間層を省略できる 単層の高記録密度用磁気記録媒体を提供することにある。
本発明は、 上記の目的を達成するために、 以下の構成からなる。 すなわち、 本発明は、 非磁性基体上に強磁性粉体を含有する磁性塗液を塗布して形成した 磁性層を有する磁気記録媒体において、 非磁性基体はその磁性層を形成する面 の表面粗さが中心線平均粗さ Raで 1 〜6 nmであり、強磁性粉体は B E T法に よる比表面積が 3 0 m 2/g以上の強磁性粉体であり、磁性層はその厚みが 0 . 1 〜0 . 5 mであり、 その中に少なくとも高級脂肪酸又は脂肪酸誘導体から なる潤滑剤 1 を担持する平均粒子径が 0 . 1 m以下の導電性非磁性粉末を含 み、 その表面にフッ素系有機潤滑剤からなる潤滑剤 2が塗布含浸されており、 強磁性粉体 1 0 0部に対しこの潤滑剤 1 と潤滑剤 2の合計が 1 0〜2 5部であ ることを特徴とする磁気記録媒体である。
すなわち、 本発明は、 表面平滑性に優れた非磁性基体上に B E T法による比 表面積が 3 0 m 2 以上の強磁性粉体を含有した磁性層を形成して電磁変 換特性の向上を図る共に、 磁性層中に潤滑剤を担持するに適した特定の比表面 積を有する導電性非磁性粉末を含ませて磁性層中に出来るだけ多量の潤滑剤を 共存させるようにすると同時に磁性層の表面にフッ素系有機化合物からなる潤 滑剤を塗布含浸させることにより、 電磁変換特性を低下させることなく 、 滑り 性及び耐久性をバランスよく 向上させることが出来ることを見出し、 この二重 潤滑の構成と組み合わせることにより単層の磁性層のみで記憶容量 1 0 0 MB 以上の大容量フ口ッピ一ディスクを実現できる高記録密度用磁気記録媒体を実 現したものである。
なお、 上述の点より、 導電性非磁性粉体の添加量は、 その添加量を強磁性粉 体 100部に対し b部、 その吸油量を a ( m l /100g) 、 潤滑剤 1 と潤滑剤 2の合 計の添加量を強磁性粉体 100部に対し c部とした時に、 ( a X b ÷c ) が 150 から 300の範囲にあることが耐久性面から特に好ましい。 更に、 この導電性非 磁性粉末には必要な導電性と潤滑剤の担持が比較的少量でできる点でカーボン ブラックが好ましい。
さらに前記潤滑剤 1 が分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 9乃至 1 8の脂肪酸と、 分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 8乃至 1 7のアルコールからなるエステル化合物 ( A ) を少なくとも 1 種含むことが好ましい。
なお前記エステル化合物( A ) が下記一般式( 1 )

なお、 潤滑剤 2には下記の( 2 ) 式の構造を有するパーフルォロポリエーテ ルを少なくとも 1 種含むフッ素系有機潤滑剤が磁性層表面への付着、 含浸の面 から好ましい。

すなわち、 本発明の磁気記録媒体は磁性層が強磁性粉体と結合剤を主成分と した磁性塗料の塗布により形成され、 分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 9乃至 1 8 の脂肪酸と、 分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 8乃至 1 7のアルコールからなるェ ステル化合物( A ) を少なくとも 1 種含むことを特徴とする磁気記録媒体を提 供することである。
また前記エステル化合物( A ) が下記一般式( 1 ) で示されるエステル化合 物の少なくとも一種であり、 該化合物を該磁性層中に含有せしめたことを特徴 とする磁気記録媒体を提供することである。

すなわち本発明は、 非磁性基体上に強磁性粉体を含有する磁性塗液を塗布し て形成した磁性層を有する磁気記録媒体において、 磁性層はその厚みが 0 . 1 〜0 . 5 mであり、 潤滑剤として分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 9乃至 1 8の 脂肪酸と、 分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 8乃至 1 7のアルコールからなるエス テル化合物( A ) を該磁性層中に含有せしめることにより、 電磁変換特性を低 下させることなく 、 滑り性及び耐久性をバランスよく 向上させることが出来る ことを見出し、 単層の磁性層のみで記憶容量 1 0 0 M B以上の大容量フロッピ —ディスクを実現できる高記録密度用磁気記録媒体を実現したものである。 なお、 上述の点より磁性層中に添加する潤滑剤としての前記エステル化合物 ( A ) が下記一般式( 1 )

また該磁性層中に前記エステル化合物( A ) を磁性層中の強磁性粉体 1 0 0 部に対して 5 〜2 5部含有していることが好ましい。
さらに該磁性層中に潤滑剤として前記エステル化合物( A ) および常温で固 体の金属石鹼、 脂肪酸、 脂肪酸アミドから選ばれる少なく とも一種の化合物を 含有することが好ましい。
また磁性層中の強磁性粉体 1 0 0部に対して該潤滑剤を合計 1 0 ~2 5部含 有することが好ましい。
また前記磁性層は強磁性粉体として抗磁力が 1 5 0 0 〜3 0 0 0ェルステツ ドの強磁性合金粉末または 6方晶系フェライ卜粉末から選ばれた少なく とも一 種を含有することが好ましい。
以上の本発明の磁気記録媒体は、 優れた電磁変換特性、 滑り性及び耐久性を 有し、 単層で安価であり、 例えば高記録密度の磁気亍一プ、 フロッピーデイス ク中でも大容量フロッピーディスクとして有用である。
以下、 本発明の詳細を説明する。 発明を実施するための最良の形態
本発明において用いる非磁性基体としては、 プラスチックフィルムが好まし く挙げられる。 例えば、 ポリエチレンテレフタレートなどのポリエステル類、 ポリプロピレンなどのポリオレフイン類、 セルロースジアセテート、 セルロー ストリアセテートなどのセルロース誘導体、 ポリカーボネート、 ポリ塩化ビニ ル、 ポリイミド、 ポリアミド、 ポリスルホン、 ポリエーテルスルホンなどの合 成樹脂からなるフィルム、 シートを挙げることができる。
かかるフィルムは、 フィラーの粒径及び添加量を調整することで記録層を塗 布する面の表面粗さが中心線平均粗さ Raで 1 ~6 nrriに製膜した二軸配向フィ ルムを使用することが好ましい。 Raが 6nmを越えると、 塗布により形成され た記録層の平滑性が損なわれるため高記録密度化の目的を達成できない。
本発明において用いる強磁性粉体は比表面積が 3 0 m 2 Zg以上の強磁性 粉体であり、該強磁性粉体としては従来公知の C o含有 F e 2 0 3 、 C o 含有 F e 3 O 4 、バリゥムフヱライトなどの酸化物系磁性粉体、鉄、 F e — C o - N i などのメタル系磁性粉体等を例示することができる。 比表面積が 3 0 m 2 未満のものは高記録密度化の目的を達成できない。
特に高密度磁気記録の理論からは、 粒子サイズが小さく抗磁力や CT sの高い強 磁性合金粉末が好ましく 、 そのために B E T法による比表面積で 3 0〜8 0 m 2 /g 、 抗磁力は 1 5 0 0〜3 0 0 0 O eの範囲にある強磁性微粉末を選ぶと 良い。このような強磁性微粉末の例としては長軸長が 0 . 0 5 〜0 . 2 0 m、 結晶子サイズが 2 5 0 A以下、 F e に対する C o元素の含有率が 1 0〜3 0 %、 微量元素として A L、 Yをそれぞれ 0〜1 0 %の範囲で含む強磁性 F e合金粉 末を挙げることができる。 またこれら磁性粉の形状は、 針状、 粒状、 米粒状、 板状などの各種形態をとリうリ、 また所望により各種磁性粉末を単独及び又は 併用して用いることができる。 例えば高密度記録では電気特性に及ぼす媒体の 垂直成分の磁化量の寄与が重要であるが、 垂直磁気記録に好適な 6方晶系フエ ライトを併用することができる。 特に 6方晶フエライトは強磁性合金粉末に比 較して硬いことから磁性層の耐久性向上にも効果があり、好ましく用いられる。 本発明において磁性層に用いられる結合剤としては、 通常の塗布型磁気記録 媒体の磁性層の結合剤に使用される公知のものを適用でき、 下記のような樹脂 を用いることができる。 例えば、 ポリウレタン樹脂、 ポリエステル樹脂、 ポリ カーボネート樹脂、 フ: Lノキシ樹脂、 硝酸セルロース系ポリマ一、 ポリブチラ ール樹脂、 NBRなどゴム系樹脂、 塩化ビニル 酢酸ビニル共重合体、 塩化ビ 二リデン共重合体、 ポリアミド樹脂などである。 これらの樹脂は単独又は組み 合わせで使用することができる。
またより優れた分散性と耐久性を得るために一 COOM、 一 S03M、 一 O S03M、 -P =0 ( OM1 ) ( OM2 ) 、 一 OP =0( OM1 ) ( OM2 ) 、 一 NR4X、 OH、 NR2、 N+R3、 エポキシ基、 S H、 C N ( ここで M, M 1 , M2は!"!、 Li 、 Na 、 K、 一 NR4、 一 NHR3を示し、 R2 , R 3 , R4はアルキル基もしく は Η、 Xはハロゲン原子を示す。 ) などから選ばれる 少なくとも一つ以上の極性基を共重合または付加反応で導入したものを用いる ことが好ましい。
これらの樹脂には、 ポリイソシアナート系架橋剤を組合わせて使用して適度 な塗膜物性に調整することができる。 用いることのできるポリイソシアナ一ト 系架橋剤としては、 次の化合物を挙げることができる。 例えば、 トリレンジィ ソシアナート、 キシリレンジイソシアナ一卜、 へキサメチレンジイソシアナ一 卜、 4 , 4 ' ージフエニルメタンジイソシアナ一卜などのジイソシアナ一トと、 あるいは卜リメチロールプロパンと卜リレンジイソシアナート 3モルの付加化 合物( 日本ポリウレタン社製、 コロネートしなど) などである。
本発明における磁性層には、 その他の添加剤として分散剤等の添加剤を必要 に応じて組み合わせて使用することができる。 分散剤としては界面活性剤を用 いることができ、 レシチン、 高分子分散剤、 シランカップリング剤、 チタン力 ップリング剤、 りん酸エステルなどを添加することができる。
本発明において用いる導電性非磁性粉末は、 静電気障害の防止に必要な従来 の帯電防止の作用の他に、 潤滑剤を担持する作用、 具体的には吸着することで 磁性層表面にブリードアウトすることを防止し、 かつ長期間に亘つて磁性層表 面に潤滑剤を供給する作用があるものであればよく 、 平均粒子径が 0.1 i m以 下の公知の導電性非磁性粉末が適用できる。
ところで、 特に 0.5 m以下に磁性層が薄層化するに従い、 表面電気抵抗を 帯電しない 1 0 1° Ω以下に抑制するために必要な帯電防止のための導電性非磁 性粉末の添加量は増大しており、 帯電防止と潤滑剤の担体としての機能を両立 した導電性非磁性粉末を使用することで、 はじめて 0."!〜 0.5 jl mの薄層の単層 記録層の磁気記録媒体の品質をバランス良く実用可能なレベルに上げること力《 できた。
この点から、 この導電性非磁性粉末の添加量は、 特に耐久性面から、 その添 加量を強磁性粉体 100部に対し b部とし、 吸油量を a ( m l /100g) 、 後述する 潤滑剤 1 と潤滑剤 2合計の添加量を c部とした時に( a x b ÷c ) が 1 5 0力、 ら 3 0 0の範囲にあることが好ましい。 ( a x b ÷c ) 力《 150未満であると潤 滑剤が磁性層表面にプリードアウトし、 300以上の場合は磁性層表層の潤滑剤 量が不足し耐久性が悪化する。
かかる導電性非磁性粉末として好適なものとしては、 導電性のカーボンブラ ック、 金属粉末等が挙げられる。 また金属酸化物、 金属炭酸塩、 金属硫酸塩、 金属窒化物、 金属炭化物、 金属硫化物等の非導電性無機質粉末についても導電 性物質例えば Sbをドープした Sn02、 Snドープの In203、 AIドープの ZnO等を 被覆させたものが適用できる。 具体的には Τ ί Ο 2、 T i O x 、 酸化セリウム、 酸化スズ、 酸化タングステン、 Z n O、 Z r 0 2、 S i 0 2、 ひ酸化鉄、 ゲータ イト、 コランダム、 窒化珪素、 チタンカーバイド、 窒化硼素、 酸化銅、 炭酸マ グネシゥム、 炭酸バリウム、 炭酸カルシウム、 硫酸バリウム、 炭化珪素、 炭化 チタン、 ひアルミナ、 ^アルミナ、 rアルミナなどに導電性物質を被覆させた ものを単独または組み合わせて使用することができる。
特には導電性カーボンブラックが好ましく用いられる。 具体的にはァセチレ ンブラック、 カラー用カーボンブラック、 ファーネスブラック、 ケッチェンブ ラックなど任意のものを用いることができ、 好ましく は平均粒子径は 5〜80 n m、 比表面積は B E T法で 200〜1 500 m 2/g、 吸油量が 20〜50 0 ml Z1 00 g、 p Hは 2〜1 0のものを用いる。なお、本発明の吸油量は、 J I S K5421 に規定のアマ二油に替えてジブチルフタレート ( DBP) を用いて測定する D B P吸油量( AST M-D—241 4 ) である。
用いられるカーボンブラックのいくつかを例示すると、 キャボット社製の B LACKPEARL S2000.1 000、 900、 800、 VUL CAN X Cー72、 コロンビアンカーボン社製の R A V E N 8800、 8000、 7 000、 三菱化学社製の #3750 B、 #3750、 #3250B、 #325 0、 #950、 #850 B、 #650 B、 #45、 #40、 #5、 MA一 77、 MA -7、 ライオンァクゾ社製のケッチェンブラック EC、 ケッチェンブラッ ク EC600 J D等などが挙げられる。これらのカーボンブラックは、単独で、 あるいは複数組み合わせて用いることができる。 また、 カーボンブラックの表 面を分散剤等で処理したり、 一部をグラフアイト化して用いてもよい。 いずれ にしても帯電防止剤の含有量は製品規格に適合するように適宜調整することが できる。
その他非磁性粉として公知のように磁性層の耐摩耗性、 滑り性向上剤、 磁気 へッドの研磨剤として作用する無機粉末を添加しても良い。 この用途で使用す る無機粉末の平均粒径は磁性層厚みによって最適なものを選べばよいが、 本発 明においては磁性層の膜厚との関係で 0.1〜0.6 mの範囲である必要がある。 この平均粒径が 0.6 mより大きいと、 電磁変換特性が損われやすく 、 媒体の 耐摩耗性も低下する。 一方平均粒径が 0 . 1 mより小さいと、 本来の目的の 一つである滑り性の改良ができないばかりか磁気へッドの研磨力が激減し電気 特性の低下や、 磁性層の破壊を促進し易くなる。
この用途で用いられる非磁性粉は具体的には Τ ί 0 2、 Τ ί O x 、 酸化セリ ゥム、 酸化スズ、 酸化タングステン、 Z n 0、 Z r ◦ 2、 S i O 2、 ひ酸化鉄、 ゲータイト、 コランダム、 窒化珪素、 チタンカーバイド、 窒化硼素、 酸化銅、 炭酸マグネシウム、 炭酸バリゥム、 炭酸カルシウム、硫酸バリゥム、 炭化珪素、 炭化チタン、 ひアルミナ、 アルミナ、 rアルミナ、 酸化クロム、 s i — cな ど等を単独または組み合わせて使用することができる。 また、 粒子形状として は粒状、 球状、 ひょうたん形状等を例示できる。 もちろんこれらの非磁性粉末 についても導電性物質を被覆させ帯電防止機能を付与しても良い。 これらの研 磨剤は磁性粉 1 0 0重量部に対して 5 〜2 0重量部の範囲で添加される。 この 量が 5重量部より少ないと十分な耐久性が得られず、 また 2 0重量部より多す ぎると磁性粉密度が減少し十分な電磁変換特性が得られない。 本発明において上述の磁性層に諸特性を満足させつつ耐久性を確保するため に以下のように潤滑剤を含有させる。 すなわち、 用いる潤滑剤は導電性非磁性 粉末に担持され易く且つ長期的に表面に逐次ブリードする高給脂肪酸又は脂肪 酸誘導体からなる潤滑剤 1 と磁性層表面での保持性がよいフッ素系有機潤滑剤 からなる潤滑剤 2の 2種類であり、 前者は磁性層中に後者は磁性層表面及び表 層に含ませる二重潤滑法であり、 これにより薄い磁性層の電磁変換特性を損な うことなく 、 充分な潤滑特性、 特に耐久性を確保したものである。
磁性層中に章まれる潤滑剤 1 と潤滑剤 2の合計の添加量は、 強磁性粉体 100 部に対し 10部以上 25部以下の範囲である。 潤滑剤 2は磁性層内部から表面に 移動し表面に潤滑膜を形成し、 これが長期間持続するが、 磁性層が薄層化する と磁性層内部に存在する潤滑剤の絶対量が不足し、 表面に充分な潤滑膜を形成 できなくなる。本発明の 0.1〜0.5 i mの薄層の磁性層では潤滑剤が 10部未満で あると潤滑剤として走行耐久性を維持する効果が乏しくなる。また 25部を越え ると磁性層表面に潤滑剤がブリードアウトしたり、 可塑化が顕著になり、 磁性 層が柔らかくなって耐久性が劣ってくるので好ましくない。 かかる潤滑剤 1 と しては高級脂肪酸、 脂肪酸エステル、 脂肪酸アミド等が適用できる。
また、 磁性層の表面及び表層に含まれる潤滑剤 2の添加量は、 上記潤滑剤 1 の不足分を補う量に選定される。 従って、 潤滑剤 1 との総量が潤滑剤 1 で述べ た範囲になるように選択される。 表面又は表層という限られた領域に含まれる ため潤滑剤 2の量は、 通常磁性層の強磁性粉体 1 0 0部に対して 1 〜数部の範 囲である
。 かかる潤滑剤 2としては、 フッ素系有機潤滑剤、 具体的にはフッ素系高分子 液、 フッ素系樹脂液等からなる潤滑剤が挙げられる。中でも下記の化学式( 2 ) の構造を有するパーフルォロポリエーテルを少なくとも 1 種以上を含むものが、 磁気へッドとの摩擦の軽減、 走行安定性の改善の面から好ましい。

( ( 2 ) 式で、 p、 q は 4000以上 13000以下を満たす任意の自然数) 本発明における磁性塗液は、 前記の強磁性粉体、 バインダー、 導電性非磁性 粉末及び潤滑剤を有機溶剤、 例えばメチルェチルケトン、 メチルイソプチルケ 卜ン、 トルエン、 シクロへキサノン、 亍トラヒドロフラン等と混合することで 調製する力 その際分散剤( 例えばレシチン、 高分子分散剤、 シランカツプリ ング剤、 チタンカップリング剤、 りん酸エステル等) 、 帯電防止剤( 例えば力 一ボンブラック等) の従来公知の添加剤( 增粘剤、 レべリング剤、 抗菌剤等) を添加してもよい。 なお、 導電性非磁性粉末と潤滑剤 1 とは同時に一緒に混鍊 することが潤滑剤 1 をできる限り多量に担持させる面から好ましい。
磁性層用塗料の分散にはそれぞれ各種の分散機が使用できる。 例えば二本口 ールミル、 三本ロールミル、 ボールミル、 ぺブルミル、 サンドグラインダー、 アトライター、 高速インペラ一分散機、 高速度衝撃ミル、 ニーダ一、 加圧式二 ーダ一、 プラネタリーミキサー、 ホモジナイザー、 超音波分散機等を単独また は併用して用いることができる。 塗液の調合では本発明に用いる原料を 2っ以 上の工程で分割してもかまわない。 例えば結合剤を混練工程、 分散工程で分割 投入したり、 架橋剤、 例えばポリイソシアナートは塗布直前に添加すること力《 できる。
かかる磁性塗液の非磁性基体の表面( 片面又は両面) への塗布は、 従来公知 の塗布方法を用いることができる。 塗布方法としては、 例えばエアードクター コート、 ブレードコート、 エアナイフコート、 スクイズコート、 含浸コート、 リバースロールコート、 グラビアコート、 ダイコート等を利用することができ る。 塗布量は、 乾燥およびカレンダー処理後の塗膜( 磁性層) 厚みが 0 . 1 〜 0 . 5 / mとなる範囲が好ましい。 塗布後の処理は従来公知の処理を用いるこ とができる。
そして、 本発明では、 この硬化後の磁性層の表面に潤滑剤 2を塗布すること により、 表面及び表層に前述の潤滑剤 2を含浸させる。 これにより磁気ヘッド との潤滑性が大きく改良され、 潤滑剤 1 の作用と組み合わさって実用レベルの 耐久性が得られた。
また本発明で潤滑剤として用いられる潤滑剤は、 分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数 が 9乃至 1 8の脂肪酸と、 分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 8乃至 1 Ίのアルコー ルからなるエステル化合物( A ) である。
前記エステル化合物( A ) が下記一般式( 1 ) で示されるエステル化合物で あり、

このエステル化合物を構成するカルボン酸は炭素数 9乃至 1 8で例えばイソ ノナン酸( 3, 5 , 5トリメチルへキサン酸) 、 イソ卜リデカン酸( 3 , 9 , 9トリメチルデカン酸) 等が挙げられる。 またエステル化合物を構成するアル コールは炭素数 8乃至 1 7で例えばイソォクチルアルコール( 2 , 4 , 4トリ メチルペンタノール) 、 イソノニルアルコール( 3 , 5 , 5 ト リメチルへキサ ノール) 、 イソトリデシルアルコール( 3 , 9 , 9トリメチルデカノール) 等 を挙げることができる。一般式( 1 ) のエステル化合物は単独で使用できる力《、 他の潤滑剤と併用することもできる。 例えば一般式( 1 ) 以外の潤滑剤として は高級脂肪酸、 脂肪酸エステル、 脂肪酸アミド、 シリコーンオイル、 変成シリ コーンオイル、 パラフィン、 金属石けん、 ワックス等、 固体や液体を問わずに 添加できるが、 特には、 常温で固体の金属石けん、 脂肪酸、 脂肪酸アミドから 選ばれる少なくとも一種を含ませることが好ましく挙げることができる。 この 固体潤滑剤を併用することによって、 高温での滑り性、 耐久性はさらに良好と なる。 その理由は明らかでないが恐らく一般式( 1 ) は高温雰囲気下では磁性 層内部に取込まれ表層の有効成分が減少し滑性が低下する傾向にあり、 固体潤 滑剤が表層の滑性の低下を補う作用を有しているものと推測できる。
かかる固体潤滑剤としては具体的には、 例えばラウリン酸カルシウム、 ラウ リン酸亜鉛、 ステアリン酸カルシウム、 ステアリン酸亜鉛、 ステアリン酸鉛、 リシノール酸カルシウム、 リシノール酸亜鉛、 力プリン酸、 ラウリン酸、 ミリ スチン酸、 パルミチン酸、 ス亍アリン酸、 ス亍アリン酸アミド、 ォレイン酸ァ ミド等を挙げることができる。
一般式( 1 ) の配合量は単独で用いる場合は強磁性粉体 1 0 0部に対して 1 0〜2 5部の範囲が好ましく 、 他の潤滑剤を併用する場合では一般式( 1 ) は 強磁性粉体 1 00部に対して 5部以上を含み、 潤滑剤の合計で 1 0部以上を配 合することで効果を発現できる。 この配合量が 1 0部以下であると磁気ヘッド との摩擦が増大し駆動トルクが増大、 走行安定性が悪化するばかりでなく走行 耐久性も悪化する。 また 25部以上だと潤滑剤が磁性層表面にプリ一ドアゥ卜 したり、 可塑化作用により塗膜が軟化し耐久性が低下する等の弊害が生じるよ フに, る。
該一般式( 1 ) の代わりに直鎖または分岐数 2以下の脂肪酸から構成 されるエステルを用いると、 炭素数 1 2以下の脂肪酸からなるエステルでは高 温雰囲気下での蒸発減量が大きく、 磁気記録媒体の耐久性は低下し、 炭素数 1 3以上の脂肪酸からなるエステルでは低温域での流動性が悪くなり走行安定性 を阻害する。 アルコールについても同様に分岐数 2以下では高温雰囲気下での 蒸発減量と低温域での流動性を共に満足できるエステルは構成できない。 ここ でいう分岐数とは長鎖脂肪酸あるいは長鎖アルコールの主鎖の任意の位置に置 換しているァルキル基あるいはァルケニル基の数を現わす。
本発明の磁気記録媒体は駆動トルクが低く優れた走行安定性と耐久性を有す ることから、 高い信頼性を要求される例えば高記録密度の磁気テープ、 フロッ ピーディスクとして有用である。
【 実施例】
以下、 実施例を掲げて本発明をさらに説明する。 なお例中の「 部」 は重量部 を意味する。 また、 磁気記録媒体の特性は、 フロッピーディスクにして次の方 法で測定した。
1 ) 電磁変換特性
日本電気 (株)製 3. 5インチ F DD FD— 1 331 ( I F : 31 2. 5 K H z , 2 F : 625 KHz ) を用い、 最外周での 1 F出力、 最内周での 2 F出力 を測定した。 2 ) 駆動卜ルク
日本電気( 株) 製の 3 . 5型フロッピーディスクドライブ F D— 1 0 3 5を 用い、 フロッピーディスクの外周部( 卜ラック 0 0 ) にヘッドロードして、 3 6 0 r p mでの卜ルク( g ■ c m ) をトルクメータ一で測定し、 滑り性の指標 とした。
3 )加速耐久性
高速回転( 1 5 0 0 r p m ) 、 高荷重( 8 0 g重) 状態でドライブを室温環 境下( 温度 2 0〜2 5 °C、 湿度 5 0〜6 5 %RH) で駆動し、 2時間駆動後のメ ディア表面の( 摺動跡、 剥離) を目視により観察し、 5点満点でランク付けし た。 判定は、 メディアに変化がない場合を 5点とし、 以下弱い摺動跡のみが観 察される場合を 4点、 強い摺動跡も観察される場合を 3点、 弱い剥離も観察さ れる場合、 強い剥離も観察される場合をそれぞれ 2点と 1 点とした採点により 行った。
4 ) サイクル耐久性
下記の 4ケースの温湿度条件を下記の順序で 6時間毎に切り替えて、 1 曰 1 サイクルで運転する恒温槽にフ口ッピ一ディスクドライブを設置して、 連続回 転試験を行つた。
[ 2 5 °C、 5 0 %R H ] →[ 5 2 °C、 8 0 %R H ] →
[ 2 5 °C、 2 0 %R H ] →[ 5。C、 湿度はフリ一] 連続回転試験は、 フロッピ一ディスクドライブに日本電気 (株)製の 3 . 5ィ ンチ F D D F D 1 3 3 7 Cを用い、 通常の回転数( 3 6 0 r p m ) 及び通常 のテンションにて、 サンプル磁気ディスクの外周( 卜ラック 0 0 ) にヘッド口 ードし、 同一トラックで連続回転走行させて、 行った。
評価は、 1 2時間毎に塗膜面を目視観察し、 塗膜のいずれか一方の面に剥離 が発生するまでの総回転数( パス回数) をもって、 耐久性の評価とした。なお、 チェック等の時間を差し引き、 1 日 = 5 0万パスとして換算した。 結果は n = 3枚のパス回数( 万パス) の平均で表わした。
[ 実施例 1 ]
下記組成の混合物を湿式分散機で混練して磁性塗料を作成した。

強磁性金属合金粉末( 比表面積 50 m 2/g、 Hc 1 650 0e) 1 00部 導電性非磁性粉 カーボンブラック: DBP吸油量 495ml/100g、平均粒子径 30nm)
7部 研磨材( 平均粒子径 0. 3 m) 6部 分散剤( I CI 製 PS3 ) 2部 スルホン酸基含有塩ビ樹脂( 日本ゼオン社製 MR— 1 1 0 ) 1 3部 ポリウレタン( 協和発酵社製エステン 5701 F ) 4部 ポリイソシァネー卜 ( 日本ポリウレタン社製コロネートし) 6部 潤滑斉 IJ1 ( へキサテ 'シルハ。ルミテートとイソ才クチルステアレートの混合物) 1 6部 溶剤( トルエンとシクロへキサノンの混合溶剤) 500部 得られた磁性塗料を厚さが 62 μ mで両面の表面粗さが共に Raで 5 n mの ポリエチレンテレフタレートフィルムに塗布 · 乾燥' カレンダー後の塗布厚み が 0. 4 l mになるように両面に塗布した。 次いで乾燥を行ない、 カレンダー 処理による磁性層表面の平滑化、 加熱キュアを実施した。 その後に直径 9 0 mmのディ スク状に打ち抜き、 スピンコート によリ 潤滑剤 2 として パーフルォロポリ エーテル( 平均分子量 9500) を両面に塗布するこ とにより ディ スク媒体を作成した。 このとき磁性塗膜の比重力《2.1で あることを用い、スピンコート による重量増を片側 30 gとなるよう に塗布条件を合わせることで、強磁性金属合金粉末 100部に対して 1 部となる塗布量を定めた。
得られたディスク媒体に研磨処理を行なった後、 公知の方法によりカートリ ッジに収納してフロッピ一ディスクのサンプルを作成した。 [ 実施例 2 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 1 3部にする以外は、 実 施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作 成した。
[ 実施例 3 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 2 1 部にする以外は、 実 施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作 成した。
[ 実施例 4 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 2 1 部にし、 導電性非磁 性粉の添加量を 8部にする以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスク のサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[ 実施例 5 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料を片面の Ra力《1 n m、 もう一方の面の Raが 5nm のポリエチレンテレフタレートフィルムに塗布する以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構 成のフロッピーディスクのサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。 尚、 評 価は Raが 1 nmの面に形成した磁性膜について実施した。
[ 実施例 6 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の強磁性合金粉末( 比表面積 5 0 m 2Zg 、 H c 1 6 5 0 O e ) の代わりに比表面積 5 0 m 1/も 、 H cが 2 3 0 0 O e の強 磁性合金粉末を用い、 潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 2 1 部とし、 さらに乾燥後の厚みが 0.2 mになるように塗布した以外は、実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディス クのサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[ 実施例 7 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 としてへキサデシルバルミテートと イソォクチルステアレートの混合物を 1 6部添加する代わりにイソノナン酸ノ ニルを 6部、 へキサデシルパルミテートとイソォクチルス亍ァレートの混合物 を 1 0部添加する以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプ ルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[実施例 8 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 としてへキサデシルバルミテートとィ ソォクチルステアレートの混合物を 1 6部添加する代わりにイソノナン酸ノニ ルを 1 6部用いる以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプ ルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[ 比較例 1 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 1 0部にする以外は、 実 施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作 成した。
[ 比較例 2 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 2 3部にする以外は、 実 施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作 成した。
[ 比較例 3 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の導電性非磁性粉の添加量を 4 . 5部、 潤滑剤 1 の添加量を 8部にする以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクの サンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[ 比較例 4 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料中の導電性非磁性粉の添加量を 9部、 潤滑剤 1 の 添加量を 2 5部にする以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサ ンプルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[ 比較例 5 ]
実施例 1 において磁性塗料を Ra力" 0 n mのポリエチレンテレフタレ一ト フイルムに塗布する以外は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサン プルを実施例 1 と同様にして作成した。
[ 比較例 6 ]
実施例 1 において潤滑剤 2 ( パーフルォロポリエーテル) を添加しない以外 は、 実施例 1 と同じ構成のフロッピーディスクのサンプルを実施例"! と同様に して作成した。
以上の各サンプルの主要条件を下記の表 1 に示す。

これらのサンプルについて、 前述した各評価テス卜を行い、 評価した。 評価 結果を表 2〜表 5に示す。 表 2は電磁変換特性の測定結果、 表 3は滑り性の評 価のための駆動トルクの測定結果、 表 4は加速耐久性の評価結果、 表 5はサイ クル耐久性の評価結果である。評価は電気特性に関しては 2 F出力は 350mV以 上、 分解能( 2F/1 F) は 0.50以上を良好とし、 同様に駆動トルクに関しては 40 g - cm以下、 加速耐久性に関しては 3点以上、 サイクル耐久性に関しては 8 0 0万パス以上を基準に全ての評価項目においてそれぞれ良好であることを判定 基準とした。

これらの結果より、 以下のことが判る。 すなわち、 実施例 1 のサンプルは評 価の基準例で、 全ての評価において優れた特性を示している。
これに対して、 潤滑剤 1 の添加量を少なくした実施例 2のサンプルでは実施 例 1 に比較して耐久性が低下する傾向が見られたが、 これは、 潤滑剤の添加量 が少ないために磁性層表層の潤滑膜の形成が十分でなくなるのが早まったため と推察される。なお、耐久性はこの範囲では実用上問題ない範囲にある。また、 その他の特性はほぼ実施例 1 と同等である。
一方、 潤滑剤 1 の添加量を多く した実施例 3のサンプルでは実施例 1 に比較 してサイクル耐久性が向上する傾向が見られたが、 これは潤滑剤の添加量が多 いことが磁性層表層への潤滑剤の長期供給の点で有利に働いたものと考えられ る。 なお、 その他の特性では、 実施例 1 と同等である。
導電性非磁性粉の添加量を多く した実施例 4のサンプルでは実施例 1 に比較 して電磁変換特性の出力レベルがやや低下する傾向が見られたが、 これは導電 性非磁性粉の添加量が多いことで、 磁性粉の分散が阻害され充填性で不利に働 いたものと考えられる。 また、 駆動トルク即ち滑り性、 耐久性もこの範囲では 実用上問題ないが低下する傾向が見られた。
非磁性基体の表面平滑性の良い面側の実施例 5のサンプルでは実施例 1 に比 較して電磁変換特性が改善される傾向が見られたが、 これは非磁性基体の表面 平滑性が上がつたことで磁性層の平滑性も良くなり磁気へッドとのスペース口 スが減少したことによると考えられる。 なお、 本サンプルでは駆動トルクが上 昇傾向即ち滑り性は低下傾向であるが、 耐久性には変化は見られなかった。 磁性粉末の H eを大きくした磁性粉を用いると共に磁性層厚みを薄くするこ とでさらなる高密度化に対応した実施例 6のサンプルでは 2 F出力が 350mV に達していないが実施例 1 に比較して 2 F Z1 F比が大きく 向上していること から高密度記録に好適な媒体となっている。 なお、 厚みの減少により耐久性が 低下する傾向があるが、 潤滑剤 1 の添加量比の増加により実用上問題ない範囲 にある。
導電性非磁性粉の添加量に対する潤滑剤 1 の添加量の比を減らした比較例 1 のサンプルでは実施例 1 に比較して駆動トルクゃ耐久性で明らかに劣っている が、 導電性非磁性粉の添加量に対して潤滑剤 1 の添加量が少なすぎるために磁 性層表層の潤滑膜の形成が十分でなくなつたためと推察される。 なお、 電磁変 換特性は、 同レベルであった。
導電性非磁性粉の添加量に対する潤滑剤 1 の添加量の比を増やした比較例 2 のサンプルでは実施例 1 に比較して 2 Fの出力は改善されているが耐久性では 明らかに劣っている。 これは導電性非磁性粉の添加量に対して潤滑剤 1 の添加 量が多すぎるため塗膜が可塑化し、 カレンダー処理での表面平滑化には有利に 働き出力を向上させたが、 塗膜強度の低下により耐久性の低下を引起こしたも のと考えられる。 なお、 駆動トルクは同レベルであった。 導電性非磁性粉と潤滑剤 1 の添加量を少なくした比較例 3のサンプルでは導 電性非磁性粉の添加量に対しする潤滑剤 1 の添加量の比率は適正であるが、 潤 滑剤 1 の絶対量が少ないために加速耐久性で劣る結果になったと考えられる。 また、 このサンプルでは導電性非磁性粉の添加量が少ないことから表面電気抵 抗が 1 0 10 Ω以上となり帯電を防止することができない。
導電性非磁性粉と潤滑剤 1 の添加量を増やした比較例 4のサンプルでは導電 性非磁性粉の添加量に対しする潤滑剤 1 の添加量の比率は適正であるが、 導電 性非磁性粉の絶対量が多いために相対的に磁性粉密度が低下、 さらに分散も阻 害されるために駆動卜ルクも高く即ち表面性が低下し、 電磁変換特性も低下す る結果になったと考えられる。 また、 表面性の低下により加速耐久性も低下し た。
表面粗さが粗い非磁性基体を用いた比較例 5のサンプルでは非磁性基体の表 面平滑性が悪く 2 F出力の低下が大きく充分な電磁変換特性を得ることが出来 なかった。 なお、 駆動トルク、 耐久性は良好であった。
潤滑剤 2の塗布をしない比較例 6のサンプルではパーフルォロポリエーテル の添加がないことから、 滑り性が悪く 、 駆動トルクが上がり走行安定性が保て ないばかりか耐久性でも劣る結果となった。 なお、 電磁変換特性は変化なかつ

請 求 の 範 囲
1 . 非磁性基体上に強磁性粉体を含有する磁性塗液を塗布して形成した磁性層 を有する磁気記録媒体において、 非磁性基体はその磁性層を形成する面の表面 粗さが中心線平均粗さ Raで 1 〜6 nmであり、 強磁性粉体は B E T法による 比表面積が 3 0 m 2/g以上の強磁性粉体であり、 磁性層はその厚みが 0 . 1 〜0 . 5 mであり、 その中に少なくとも高級脂肪酸又は脂肪酸誘導体からな る潤滑剤 1 を担持する平均粒子径が 0 . 1 m以下の導電性非磁性粉末を含み、 その表面にフッ素系有機潤滑剤からなる潤滑剤 2が塗布含浸されており、 強磁 性粉体 1 0 0部に対しこの潤滑剤 1 と潤滑剤 2の合計が 1 0〜2 5部であるこ とを特徴とし、 かつ導電性非磁性粉体を、 その添加量を強磁性粉体 100部に対 し b部、 その吸油量を a ( ml/100g) 、 潤滑剤 1 と潤滑剤 2の合計の添加量を 強磁性粉体 100部に対し c部とした時に、 ( a x b ÷c ) が 150から 300の範 囲にあるように含む請求項 1 に記載の磁気記録媒体。
2 . 前記導電性非磁性粉末がカーボンブラックである請求の範囲第 1 項記載の 磁気記録媒体。
3 . 前記潤滑剤 1 が分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 9乃至 1 8の脂肪酸と、 分岐 数が 3個以上で炭素数が 8乃至 1 7のアルコールからなるエステル化合物
( A ) を少なくとも 1 種含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 項又は第 2項記 載のいずれかの磁気記録媒体。

7 . 非磁性基体上に強磁性粉体を含有する磁性塗液を塗布して形成した磁性層 を有する磁気記録媒体において、 磁性層はその厚みが 0 . 1 〜0 . 5 mであ り、 潤滑剤として分岐数が 3個以上で炭素数が 9乃至 1 8の脂肪酸と、 分岐数 が 3個以上で炭素数が 8乃至 1 7のアルコールからなるエステル化合物( A ) を該磁性層中に含有せしめたことを特徴とする磁気記録媒体。

1 1 . 前記磁性層は強磁性粉体として抗磁力が 1 5 0 0〜3 0 0 0ェルステツ ドの強磁性合金粉末または 6方晶系フエライト粉末から選ばれた少なくとも一 種を含有することを特徴とする請求の範囲第 7項〜第 1 0項記載のいずれかの 磁気記録媒体。
1 2 . 磁気記録媒体が記憶容量 1 0 0 M B以上の大容量フ口ッピーディスクの ディスク状媒体である請求の範囲第 1 項〜第 5項、 第 7項〜第 1 1 項記載のい ずれかの磁気記録媒体。
