本発明は、 印刷装置、 印刷方法、 プログラム、 記憶媒体およびコンピュータ システムに関する。
本出願は、 2002年 3月 14日付で出願した日本国特許出願第 2002— 070874号、 2002年 3月 14日付で出願した日本国特許出願第 200 2-070875号、 2002年 3月 14日付で出願した日本国特許出願第 2 002— 070876号、および、 2002年 3月 14日付で出願した日本国 特許出願第 2002-070877号に基づく優先権を主張するものであり、 該出願の内容を本明細書に援用する。 背景技術
紙、布、 フィルム等の各種の被印刷体に画像を印刷する印刷装置として、 ィ ンクを断続的に吐出して印刷を行うインクジエツトプリンタが知られている。 インクジエツトプリンタでは、インクを吐出するノズルは移動しながらイン クを吐出する。 そのため、 吐出したインク滴は、 1賞性の法則により、 ノズルの 移動速度でノズルの移動方向に移動しながら、ノズルと被印刷体の間を飛ぶこ とになる。 したがって、 インク滴は、 このインク滴を吐出した時のノズルの位 置からノズルの移動方向にずれた位置で紙に着弾する。
そこで、従来のインクジェットプリンタでは、 ノズルの移動速度に基づいて 着弾位置のずれを考慮し、 印刷することが行われている。
(1) し力 し、 ノズルの移動による着弾位置のずれは、 ノズルの移動速度だけ でなく、 ノズルから被印刷体までの距離にも関係している。 そのため、 例えば 紙の厚さや紙のたわみ等の影響によって、ノズルから被印刷体までの距離が変 化すると、 ノズルの移動による着弾位置のずれ量も変化する。
そこで、 第 1の発明は、 正しい位置にインク滴を着弾させるため、 ノズノレ力 ら被印刷体までの距離を考慮して、ィンク滴を吐出するタイミングを制御する ことを目的とする。
( 2 ) また、 インクの吐出のタイミングが、 ノズルの移動速度によって、 イン クの吐出の基準となるタイミングに対し、早いタイミングになったり遅いタイ ミングなったりすると、 計算が複雑になってしまう。 さらに、 インクの吐出の タイミングがへッドの性能を超えるような早いタイミングであると、正確な印 刷を行うことができなくなる。
そこで、 第 2の発明は、 正しくインク滴を着弾させるため、 目標移動速度の 最速値が、 所定の基準速度よりも遅くなるようにしている。
( 3 ) また、 ノズルの移動速度を検出してからインクを吐出するまでに間があ ると、検出したノズルの移動速度とィンク吐出時のノズルの移動速度とが異な る場合がある。 したがって、 検出したノズルの移動速度に基づいて着弾位置の ずれを考慮しても、ィンク吐出時のノズルの移動速度が検出したノズノレの移動 速度と異なっていると、 インクが正しい位置に着弾しない。
例えば、 ノズルが加速又は減速しているときに印刷を行う場合、 ノズルの移 動速度を検出してからインクを吐出するまでに間があると、検出したノズルの 移動速度とインク吐出時のノズルの移動速度とが異なる。 そのため、従来のィ ンクジェットプリンタのように、単に検出したノズルの移動速度に基づいてィ ンクの吐出のタイミングを制御するだけでは、 ノズルが加減速しているとき、 正しい位置に着弹しない。
そこで、 第 3の発明は、 正しい位置にインクを着弾させるため、 ノズルの加 速度に応じて、 インク滴を吐出するタイミングを制御することを目的とする。 ( 4 ) また、 ノズルの移動速度の検出結果に誤差が含まれているときに、 その 誤差を含んだ移動速度に基づいてィンク滴の着弾位置のずれを算出すると、ィ ンクが正確な位置からずれて被印刷体に着弾してしまう。
特に、 ノズ^/の移動速度をエンコーダの出力に基づいて検出するときに、ェ ンコーダの分解能が低いと、速度が階段状に検出されるため、速度検出の誤差 が大きいことがある。 そして、 大きな検出誤差を含んだまま、 その検出した移 動速度に基づいてインク滴の着弾位置のずれを考慮すると、インクが正確な位 置からずれて被印刷体に着弾してしまう。
そこで、第 4の発明は、正しい位置にインクを着弾させるため、複数の検出 結果に基づいて、インク滴を吐出するタイミングを制御することを目的とする。 発明の開示
本発明の一の態様では、被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷装置は、移動しながらィ ンクを断続的に吐出するインク吐出部を有し、

また、かかる印刷装置であって、前記ィンク吐出部の移動する速度が遅くな るほど、前記インクを吐出するタイミングが遅延することが望ましい。 このよ うな印刷装置によれば、インク吐出部の移動する速度に応じて、インクを吐出 するタイミングを遅延させることができる。

また、 かかる印刷装置であって、 前記インク吐出部の移動速度は、 ェンコ ーダによって検出されることが望ましい。 このような印刷装置であれば、 ェン コーダの検出結果に基づいて、インクの吐出のタイミングを制御することがで さる。
また、 かかる印刷装置であって、前記インク吐出部の移動速度と前記基準速 度とに基づく前記タィミングの制御は、前記ィンク吐出部が加速又は減速して 移動しているときに行うことが望ましい。 このような印刷装置によれば、加減 速時のようにインク吐出部の速度が遅い状態であるときでも、インクの吐出の タイミングをずらして、 正しい位置にィンクを着弾させることができる。
また、 かかる印刷装置であって、 前記基準速度は、 前記目標速度の最速値よ りも、 4〜 6 %だけ速いことが望ましい。 このような印刷装置によれば、 実際 のインク吐出部の移動速度が目標速度とずれていても、インクの吐出のタイミ ングが、インクの吐出の基準となるタイミングに対し、早いタイミングになる ことを防ぐことができる。

また、 かかる印刷装置であって、前記印刷装置は、前記移動するインク吐出 部の加速度に基づいて、将来の前記インク吐出部の速度を算出し、前記タイミ ングは、算出された前記インク吐出部の速度に基づいて、制御されることが望 ましい。このような印刷装置によれば、インクを吐出する際の速度に基づいて、 インクの吐出のタイミングを制御することができる。
また、 かかる印刷装置であって、 前記印刷装置は、前記インク吐出部の速度 を検出し、 前記印刷装置は、検出された速度に基づいて、前記将来のインク吐 出部の速度を算出することが望ましい。 このような印刷装置によれば、インク を吐出する際の速度に基づいて、インクの吐出のタイミングを制御することが できる。

かかる印刷装置であって、前記算出された平均速度が、基準となる速度より も遅いとき、前記インク吐出部が前記基準となる速度で移動しているときのィ ンクの吐出のタイミングと比較して、遅延したタイミングで前記ィンクを吐出 する。 また、 かかる印刷装置であって、 前記算出された平均速度が遅いほど、 前記インクを吐出するタイミングが遅延することが望ましい。 また、 かかる印 刷装置であって、前記算出された平均速度に基づいて、インク吐出の遅延量を 算出し、前記インク吐出部は、インクを吐出するタイミングの基準となる信号 力 ら前記遅延量を遅延させて、インクを吐出することが望ましい。 このような 印刷装置によれば、 正しい位置にィンクを着弾させることができる。
かかる印刷装置であって、前記複数の検出された速度に基づいて、前記イン ク吐出部の加速度を算出し、算出された加速度に基づいて、前記インク吐出部 からの前記ィンクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御することが望ましい。 このような印刷装置によれば、インク吐出部が加減速中であっても、正しい位 置にインクを着弾させることができる。
かかる印刷装置であって、前記検出された速度を記憶するメモリを更に有す る。 また、 かかる印刷装置であって、 前記インク吐出部の移動する速度は、 ェ ンコーダによつて検出されることが望ましい。 このような印刷装置によれば、 エンコーダの分解能が低くても、速度検出の誤差を軽減して印刷を行うことが できる。

図 1、 図 2およぴ図 3を参照しつつ、印刷装置としてインクジエツトプリン タを例にとって、 その概要について説明する。 なお、 図 1は、 本実施形態のィ ンクジエツトプリンタの全体構成の説明図である。 また、 図 2は、 本実施形態 のインクジェットプリンタのキャリッジ周辺の概略図である。 また、 図 3は、 本実施形態のインクジエツトプリンタの搬送ュニット周辺の説明図である。 本実施形態のインクジエツトプリンタは、紙搬送ュニット 1 0、 インク吐出 ュニット 2 0、 タリ一ニングュニット 3 0、 キヤリッジュ二ット 4 0、計測器 群 5 0、 および制御ュニット 6 0を有する。
紙搬送ュニット 1 0は、被印刷体である例えば紙を印刷可能な位置に送り込 み、 印刷時に所定の方向 (図 1において紙面に垂直な方向 (以下、 紙送り方向 という) ) に所定の移動量で紙を移動させるためのものである。 紙搬送ュニッ ト 1 0は、 給紙揷入口 1 1 Aと排紙ロ 1 1 Bと、給紙モータ 1 2と、給紙ロー ラ 1 3と、プラテン 1 4と、紙送りモータ (以下、 P Fモータという) 1 5と、 紙送りモータドライバ (以下、 P Fモータドライバという) 1 6と、 紙送り口 ーラ 1 7 Aと排紙ローラ 1 7 Bと、フリーローラ 1 8 Aとフリーローラ 1 8 B と、 歯車 1 9 Aと歯車 1 9 Bと歯車 1 9 C、 とを有する。 給紙揷入口 1 1は、 被印刷体である紙を挿入するところである。給紙モータ 1 2は、給紙揷入口 1 1に揷入された紙をプリンタ内に搬送するモータであり、 D Cモータで構成さ れる。給紙ローラ 1 3は、給紙挿入口 1 1に挿入された紙をプリンタ内に搬送 するローラであり、 給紙モータ 1 2によって駆動される。 プラテン 1 4は、 印 刷中の紙 Sを支持する。 P Fモータ 1 5は、被印刷体である例えば紙を紙送り 方向に送り出すモータであり、 D Cモータで構成される。 P Fモータドライバ 1 6は、 P Fモータ 1 5の駆動を行うためのものである。 紙送りローラ 1 7 A は、給紙ローラ 1 3によってプリンタ内に搬送された紙 Sを印刷可能な領域ま で送り出すローラであり、 P Fモータ 1 5によって駆動される。 フリーローラ 1 8 Aは、紙送りローラ 1 7 Aと対向する位置に設けられ、紙 Sを紙送りロー ラ 1 7 Aとの間に挟むことによって紙 Sを紙送りローラ 1 7 Aに向かって押 さえる。排紙ローラ 1 7 Bは、印刷が終了した紙 Sをプリンタの外部に排出す るローラである。 フリーローラ 1 8 Bは、排紙ローラ 1 7 Bと対向する位置に 設けられ、紙 Sを排紙ローラ 1 Ί Bとの間に挟むことによって紙 Sを排紙ロー ラ 1 7 Bに向かって押さえる。 歯車 1 9 A、 歯車 1 9 Bおよび歯車 1 9 Cは、 P Fモータ 1 5によって排紙ローラ 1 7 Bを駆動するため、 P Fモータ 1 5の 駆動力を排紙ローラ 1 7 Bに伝達するためのものである。排紙ロ 1 1 Bは、印 刷が終了した紙をプリンタの外部に排出するところである。
ィンク吐出ュニット 2 0は、被印刷体である例えば紙にィンクを吐出するた めのものである。 インク吐出ュニット 2 0は、へッド 2 1と、へッドドライバ 2 2とを有する。 ヘッド 2 1は、 インク吐出部であるノズレを複数有し、各ノ ズルから断続的にインクを吐出する。へッドドライバ 2 2は、へッド 2 1を駆 動して、ヘッドから断続的にインクを吐出させるためのものである。 なお、 ィ ンクを吐出するタイミングに関しては、 後述する。
クリ一ニングュニット 3 0は、ヘッド 2 1のノズノレの目詰まりを防止するた めのものである。 クリーニングユニット 3 0は、 ポンプ装置 3 1と、 キヤツビ ング装置 3 5とを有する。 ポンプ装置は、ヘッド 2 1のノズルの目詰まりを防 止するため、 ノズルからインクを吸い出すものであり、 ポンプモータ 3 2とポ ンプモータドライバ 3 3とを有する。 ポンプモータ 3 2は、ヘッド 2 1のノズ ルからインクを吸引する。 ポンプモータドライバ 3 3は、 ポンプモータ 3 2 ·を 駆動する。 キヤッビング装置 3 5は、ヘッド 2 1のノズルの目詰まりを防止す るため、 印刷を行わないとき (待機時) に、 ヘッド 2 1のノズルを封止する。 キヤリッジュニット 4 0は、ヘッド 2 1を所定の方向 (図 1において紙面の 左右方向 (以下、 走査方向という) ) に走査移動させるためのものである。 キ ャリッジユニット 4 0は、 キャリッジ 4 1と、 キャリッジモータ (以下、 C R モータという) 4 2と、 キャリッジモータドライバ (以下、 C Rモータドライ ノ という) 4 3と、 プーリ 4 4と、 タイミングベルト 4 5と、 ガイドレール 4 6とを有する。 キヤリッジ 4 1は、走査方向に移動可能であって、へッド 2 1 を固定している (したがって、へッド 2 1のノズルは、 走査方向に沿って移動 しながら、 断続的にインクを吐出する) 。 また、 キャリッジ 4 1は、 インクを 収容するインクカートリッジ 4 8を着脱可能に保持している。 C Rモータ 4 2 は、 キヤリッジを走査方向に移動させるモータであり、 D Cモータで構成され る。 C Rモータドライバ 4 3は、 C Rモータ 4 2を駆動するためのものである。 プーリ 4 4は、 C Rモータ 4 2の回転軸に取付けられている。 タイミングベル ト 4 5は、 プーリ 4 4によって駆動される。 ガイドレール 4 6は、 キャリッジ 4 1を走査方向に案内する。なお、キヤリッジ 4 1の移動等に関しての詳細は、 後述する。
計測器群 5 0には、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1と、 ロータリー式エンコーダ 5 2と、紙検出センサ 5 3と、 ギャップセンサ 5 4とがある。 リニア式ェンコ一 ダ 5 1は、 キャリッジ 4 1の位置を検出するためのものである。 ロータリー式 エンコーダ 5 2は、 P Fモータ 1 5の回転量を検出するためのものである。 な お、 エンコーダの構成等については、 後述する。 紙検出センサ 5 3は、 印刷さ れる紙の終端の位置を検出するためのものである。 ギャップセンサ 5 4は、 ノ ズルから紙 Sまでの距離 PGを検出するためのものである。 なお、 ギャップセ ンサの構成等については、 後述する。 .
制御ュニット 60は、 プリンタの制御を行うためのものである。制御ュニッ ト 60は、 CPU61と、 タイマ 62と、 インターフェース部 63と、 AS I C 64と、 メモリ 65と、 DCコントローラ 66とを有する。 CPU61は、 プリンタ全体の制御を行うためのものであり、 DCコントローラ 66、 PFモ ータドライバ 16、 CRモータドライバ 43、 ポンプモータドライバ 32およ びへッドドライバ 22に制御指令を与える。 タイマ 62は、 CPU 6 1に対し て周期的に割り込み信号を発生する。 インターフェース部 63は、 プリンタの 外部に設けられたホストコンピュータ 67との間でデータの送受信を行う。 A S I C64は、ホストコンピュータ 67からインターフェース部 63を介して 送られてくる印刷情報に基づいて、印刷の解像度やへッドの駆動波形等を制御 する。 メモリ 65は、 AS I C64及び CPU 61のプログラムを格納する領 域や作業領域等を確保するためのものであり、 PROM、 RAM, EE PRO M等の記憶手段を有する。 DCコントローラ 66は、 CPU 61から送られて くる制御指令と計測器群 50からの出力に基づいて、 PFモータドライバ 16 及び CRモータドライバ 43を制御する。
<エンコーダの構成について >
図 4は、 リニア式エンコーダ 51の説明図である。
リニア式エンコーダ 51は、キヤリッジ 41の位置を検出するためのもので あり、 リニアスケール 51 1と検出部 512とを有する。
リニアスケール 511は、 所定の間隔 (例えば、 1 180インチ (1イン チ = 2. 54 cm) ) 毎にスリットが設けられており、 プリンタ本体側に固定 されている。
検出部 51 2は、 リニアスケール 5 11と対向して設けられており、 キヤリ ッジ 41側に設けられている。 検出部 51 2は、 発光ダイオード 512 Aと、 コリメ一タレンズ 51 2Bと、検出処理部 512 Cとを有しており、検出処理 部 512 Cは、複数 (例えば、 4個) のフォトダイオード 512Dと、 信号処 理回路 5 12Eと、 2個のコンパレータ 512 F a、 512Fbとを備えてレヽ る。
発光ダイオード 51 2 Aは、両端の抵抗を介して電圧 Vc cが印加されると 光を発し、 この光はコリメータレンズに入射される。 コリメータレンズ 512 Bは、発光ダイオード 512 Aから発せられた光を平行光とし、 リニアスケー ル 51 1に平行光を照射する。 リニアスケールに設けられたスリットを通過し た平行光は、 固定スリット (不図示) を通過して、 各フォトダイォード 51 2 Dに入射する。 フォトダイオード 512Dは、入射した光を電気信号に変換す る。各フォトダイォードから出力される電気信号は、コンパレータ 512 F a、 512F bにおいて比較され、 比較結果がパルスとして出力される。 そして、 コンパレータ 512 F a、 512 F bから出力されるパルス ENC— A及びパ ルス ENC— Bが、 リニア式エンコーダ 51の出力となる。
図 5 Aは、 CRモータ 42が正転しているときにおける出力信号の波形のタ イミングチャートである。 図 5Bは、 CRモータ 42が反転しているときにお ける出力信号の波形のタイミングチャートである。
図 5 A及び図 5 Bに示す通り、 C Rモータ 42の正転時おょぴ反転時のいず れの場合であつても、パルス E N C— Aとパルス E N C— Bとは、位相が 90 度ずれている。 CRモータ 42が正転しているとき、すなわち、 キヤリッジ 4 1が主走査方向に移動しているときは、 図 5 Aに示す通り、パルス ENC— A は、 パルス ENC— Bよりも 90度だけ位相が進んでいる。 一方、 CRモータ 42が反転しているときは、 図 5 Bに示す通り、 ノ、。ルス ENC— Aは、 パルス ENC— Bよりも 90度だけ位相が遅れている。各パルスの 1周期 Tは、 キヤ リッジ 41がリニアスケール 51 1のスリツトの間隔(例えば、 lZl 80ィ ンチ (1インチ =2. 54 cm) ) を移動する時間に等しい。
キャリッジ 41の位置の検出は、 以下のように行う。 まず、 パルス ENC— A又は E N C-Bについて、 立ち上がりエツジ又は立ち下りェッジを検出し、 検出されたエッジの個数をカウントする。 このカウント数に基づいて、 キヤリ ッジ 41の位置を演算する。 カウント数は、 CRモータ 42が正転していると きに一つのエッジが検出されると 『+ 1』を加算し、 CRモータ 42が反転し ているときに一つのエッジが検出されると 『_ 1』を加算する。 パルス ENC の周期はリニアスケーノレ 51 1のスリツト間隔に等しいので、カウント数にス リット間隔を乗算すれば、 カウント数が『0』のときのキャリッジ 41の位置 からの移動量を求めることができる。つまり、 この場合におけるリニア式ェン コーダ 5 1の解像度は、 リニアスケール 51 1のスリ'ット間隔となる。 また、 パルス ENC— Aとパルス ENC— Bの両方を用いて、 キヤリッジ 41の位置 を検出しても良い。パルス ENC— Aとパルス ENC— Bの各々の周期はリ二 ァスケール 511のスリット間隔に等しく、かつ、パルス ENC— Aとパルス ENC— Bとは位相が 90度ずれているので、各パルスの立ち上がりエッジ及 ぴ立ち下がりエッジを検出し、検出されたエッジの個数をカウントすれば、 力 ゥント数『1』は、リニアスケール 511のスリツト間隔の 1Z4に対応する。 よって、カウント数にスリット間隔の 1Z4を乗算すれば、カウント数が『0』 のときのキャリッジ 41の位置から移動量を求めることができる。つまり、 こ の場合におけるリニア式エンコーダ 51の解像度は、 リニアスケール 51 1の スリツト間隔の 1ノ 4となる。 ただし、後述する本実施形態におけるキヤリッ ジ 41の位置は、説明を簡単にするため、 一つのパルスのみを用いて、検出し ている。
キャリッジ 41の速度 V cの検出は、 以下のように行う。 まず、 パルス EN C— A又は ENC— Bについて、立ち上がりエッジ又は立ち下りエッジを検出 する。 一方、パルスのエッジ間の時間間隔をタイマカウンタによってカウント する。 このカウント値から周期 Τ (Τ = Τ 1、 Τ2、 · · ■ ) が求められる。 そして、 リエアスケール 51 1のスリツト間隔をえとすると、 キヤリッジの速 度は、 ; LZTとして順次求めることができる。 また、 パルス ENC— Αとパル ス ENC— Bの両方を用いて、 キャリッジ 41の速度を検出しても良い。各パ ルスの立ち上がりエッジと立ち下がりエッジを検出することにより、 リニアス ケール 5 1 1のスリツト間隔の 1Z4に対応するエッジ間の時間間隔をタイ マカウンタによってカウントする。 このカウント値から周期 Τ (Τ = Τ 1、 Τ 2、 . ■ ■ ) が求められる。 そして、 リニアスケール 51 1のスリット間隔を 又とすると、 キャリッジの速度 Vcは、 H / (4T) として順次求める ことができる。ただし、後述する本実施形態におけるキヤリッジ 41の速度は、 説明を簡単にするため、一つのパルスのみを用いて、検出していることとする。 なお、 ロータリー式エンコーダ 52では、 リニア式エンコーダ 51のリニア スケール 5 1 1が PFモータ 1 5の回転に応じて回転する回転円板となる点 が異なるだけで、 他の構成はリニア式エンコーダ 51とほぼ同様である。
===PGの検出 ===
本実施形態では、後述する基準位置を算出するため、 また、 インクの吐出の タイミングを算出するため (後述) 、 ノズルから紙までの距離 PGを検出して いる。 図 6は、 ノズルから紙までの距離 PGを検出するギャップセンサの説明 図である。 '
同図において、 ギャップセンサ 54は、発光部 541と、 2つの受光部 (第 1受光部 542及び第 2受光部 543 ) とを有する。 発光部 541は、発光ダ ィオードを有し、 被印刷体である紙 Sに光を照射する。 第 1受光部 542は、 受光した光量に応じた電気信号を出力する受光素子を有する。第 2受光部 54 2794

3は、第 1受光部 5 4 2と同様の受光素子を有している。第 2受光部 5 4 3は、 第 1受光部 5 4 2と比較して、 発光部 5 4 1から遠い位置に設けられている。 発光部 5 4 1から発せられた光は、紙 Sに入射する。紙 Sに入射された光は、 紙によって反射される。 紙 Sによって反射された光は、 受光素子に入射する。 受光素子に入射した光は、受光素子によって、入射した光量に応じた電気信号 に変換される。
ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gが小さい場合、 紙 S 1によって反射した光は、 主に第 1受光部 5 4 2に入射し、第 2受光部 5 4 3には拡散光しか入射しない。 したがって、第 1受光部 5 4 2の出力信号は、第 2受光部 5 4 3の出力信号よ りも大きくなる。
一方、 ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gが大きい場合、紙 S 2によって反射した 光は、主に第 2受光部 5 4 3に入射し、第 1受光部 5 4 2には拡散光しか入射 しない。 したがって、 第 2受光部 5 4 3の出力信号は、 第 1受光部 5 4 2の出 力信号よりも大きくなる。
したがって、受光部の出力信号の比と距離 P Gとの関係を予め求めていれば、 受光部の出力信号の比に基づいて、ノズノレから紙までの距離 P Gを検出するこ とが可能である。 この場合、受光部の出力信号の比と距離 P Gとの関係に関す る情報をテーブルとしてメモリ 6 5に記憶しておくのが良い。
なお、 ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gが小さくなる場合としては、紙 S 1が厚 手の紙であることが考えられる。 また、 ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gが大きい 場合としては、 紙 S 2が薄手の紙であることが考えられる。
ところで、 後述する 『基準距離 P G s』は、 センサによって検出されたもの でなく、 予め定められたもので良い。 この場合、 基準距離 P G sは、 センサに よって検出される距離 P Gよりも大きい値に設定されている。
本実施形態では、上記のようにギヤップセンサ 5 4を用いて距離 P Gを検出 しているが、距離 P Gの検出は 1箇所に限られるものではなく、例えば以下の ように複数の個所で距離 P Gを検出しても良い。
<走查方向に沿って複数の P Gを検出 >
図 7は、ギヤップセンサ 5 4が走査方向に沿って複数の個所で距離 P Gを計 測していることを示す説明図である。 図 7は、 紙送り方向から見た図であり、 紙面の左右方向が走査方向となる。 同図において、 同じ構成要素のものは同じ 符号を付しているので、 説明を省略する。
同図において、 ギャップセンサ 5 4力 キャリッジ 4 1に設けられている。 したがって、 ギャップセンサ 5 4は、 キャリッジが移動するのに伴って、 走査 方向に移動可能である。そのため、ギャップセンサ 5 4は、操作方向に沿って、 複数の個所で距離 P Gを検出することができる。
ギヤップセンサ 5 4が走査方向に沿ったェリァ毎の距離 P Gが検出できる ので、 インク吐出のタイミング (後述) も走査方向に沿ったエリア毎に制御す ることができるようになる。
そのため、紙 Sが印刷時に曲がっていても、走査方向に沿ったエリア毎にィ ンクの吐出のタイミングを制御できるので、ノズレが走査方向に沿って断続的 にインクを吐出しても、 高精度な印刷を行うことができる。
なお、紙 Sが走査方向に曲がる原因としては、印刷時のインクの塗布による 影響等が考えられる。
く紙送り方向に沿って複数の P Gを検出〉
図 8は、ギヤップセンサ 5 4が紙送り方向に沿って複数の個所で距離 P Gを 計測していることを示す説明図である。 図 8は、 走査方向から見た図であり、 紙面の左右方向が紙送り方向となる。 同図において、 同じ構成要素のものは同 じ符号を付しているので、 説明を省略する。
同図において、複数のギャップセンサが、 紙送り方向に並んで、 キヤリッジ に設けられている。 したがって、 各ギャップセンサの出力に基づいて、紙送り 方向に沿って複数の個所で距離 P Gを検出することができる。
ギヤップセンサ 5 4が紙送り方向に沿って複数の個所で距離 P Gを計測す ることができると、複数のノズルが紙送り方向に並んでいるので、 ノズル毎に インクの吐出のタイミング (後述) を制御することができるようになる。 そのため、紙 Sが印刷時に曲がっていたとしても、 ノズル毎にインクの吐出 のタイミングを制御できるので、 高精度な印刷を行うことができる。
なお、 紙 Sが紙送り方向に曲がる原因としては、紙送りローラ 1 7 Aと排紙 ローラ 1 7 Bの回転ずれによる影響等が考えられる。また、へッドが大型ィ匕し、 ノズルが紙送り方向に長く並ぶようになると、各ノズルから紙 Sまでの距離 P
Gの偏差が大きくなる。 このような場合に、 ノズル毎にインクの吐出のタイミ ングを制御できれば、 高精度な印刷に有効である。
= = =インクの吐出速度の検出 = = = 本実施形態では、 ィンクの吐出のタイミングを算出するため (後述) インク の吐出の速度 V iを検出している。
インクの吐出の速度は、 一般に、 インクの重量が大きくなるほど、 大きくな る。 したがって、 プリンタ力 インクの吐出量を変化させる場合、 各インクの 吐出量に基づいて、 インクの吐出の速度 V iが変化する。 例えば、 プリンタが 大ドット及び小ドットを紙に形成する場合、大ドットを形成するときのインク の吐出の速度の方が、 小ドットを形成するときのインクの吐出の速度よりも、 大きい。
そこで、本実施形態では、各ドットに対応するインクの吐出の速度に関する 情報をテーブルとしてメモリ 6 5に記憶し、 このテーブルに基づいて、 インク の吐出の速度を検出している。 すなわち、 プリンタが印刷情報に基づいて印刷 動作を行うとき、この印刷情報に基づいて印刷時に形成するインクの吐出量を 求め、求められた吐出量に基づいてメモリ 6 5に記憶されたテーブルを参照し、 テープ^/に基づいてィンクの吐出の速度を検出する。
なお、 このインクの吐出の速度に関する情報のテーブルは、 さらにインクの 色毎に設けられても良い。
ところで、 後述する 『基準吐出速度 V i s』は、 検出されたものでなく、 予 め定められたもので良い。 この場合、 基準吐出速度 V i sは、 検出されるイン ク吐出速度 V i以下の値(例えば小ドットの吐出速度以下の値) になるように 設定されている。

図 9は、本実施形態のキヤリッジの移動の目標速度の時間変化を示すダラフ である。 同図において、縦軸はキヤリッジの目標移動速度 V cであり、横軸は 時間 tである。 なお、 キヤリッジは、 C Rモータによって、 この目標速度に沿 うように移動させられる。
図に示す通り、 キャリッジ 4 1は、 停止した状態 (t = 0 ) 力 ら、 所定の最 高速度 V aまで加速され (0 < t < t 1 ) 、 一定の速度 (以下、 走査速度とい う) で走査し (t 1く tく t 2 ) 、 減速して停止する (t 2 < t < t 3 ) 。 そ して、 次は逆方向に、同様な加速移動、 走査移動、 減速移動を行う。 これを繰 り返すことにより、 キャリッジ 4 1は、 走査方向に往復して移動する。
印刷は、キヤリッジ 4 1が走査速度で移動する領域(以下、定速領域という) のみを使って行っても良い。 しかし、定速領域のみを使って印刷をすることに すると、印刷領域の幅だけ定速領域を確保する必要があるので、プリンタが大 型化してしまう。 そこで、本実施形態では、 キャリッジ 4 1が加速移動する領 域と減速移動する領域 (以下、加減速領域という) においても、 印刷を行うこ ととしている。
一方、加減速中は走査速度よりも低速でキヤリッジが移動しているので、加 JP03/02794
25 減速領域において走査領域と同様のタイミングでインクを吐出すると、インク 滴は、紙の着弾目標位置よりも手前に着弾する。 つまり、加減速領域において 印刷を行うときは、走査領域におけるインクの吐出のタイミングよりも遅延さ せてインクを吐出する必要がある。 この遅延させるタイミングに関しては、後 述する。
本実施形態では、加減速領域においても印刷を行うことができるので、 プリ ンタの小型化を図ることができる。
ところで、 後述する 『基準速度 V s』は、 検出されたものでなく、 予め定め られたもので良い。 この場合、 基準速度 V sは、 キヤリッジの移動速度 V cよ りも大きい値に設定されている。

図 1 0 Bでは、 キャリッジは、 基準となる所定の速度 (以下、 基準速度とい う) V sで走査方向 (紙面の左右方向) に移動している。 キャリッジ 4 1の速 度が V sであると、 ノズルも走査方向に V sの速度で移動している。 一方、 ィ ンク滴の鉛直方向の速度を基準インク吐出速度 V i sとし、ノズルから紙まで の距離を基準距離 P G sとすると、 インク滴は、 吐出されてから、 基準飛翔時 間経過後に、 紙に着弾する。 そうすると、 インク滴は、 'I貫 1"生の法則により、 こ のィンク滴を吐出した時のノズルの位置から距離 V s X P G s /V i sだけ 走査方向にずれた位置で紙に着弹する。 したがって、 紙の所定の位置 (以下、 着弾目標位置という) にインク滴を着弾させるためには、 ノズルが着弾目標位 置から距離 V s X P G s V i sだけ手前に位置するタイミングで、ノズルか らィンク滴を吐出する必要がある。
本実施形態では、キャリッジ 4 1が所定の基準速度 V sで移動しているとき に、着弾目標位置にインク滴を着弾させるために、 ノズルがインク滴を吐出す る位置を『基準位置』 と呼ぶことにする。 また、 ノズルが基準位置にくるタイ ミングを『基準タイミング』 という。 つまり、 キャリッジ 4 1が基準速度 V s で移動し、 ノズルから紙までの距離が基準距離 P G sであり、基準ィンク吐出 速度 V i sでインク滴を吐出するときに、キャリッジ 4 1が基準タイミングで ノズルからインク滴を吐出すれば、 目標着弾位置にインク滴を着弾させ、紙の 所定の位置にドットを形成することができる。 本実施形態では、 基準位置は、 着弾目標位置から V s X P G s /V i sだけ手前の位置として算出される。 図 1 0 Cでは、キャリッジ 4 1が基準速度 V sよりも遅い速度 V cで移動し、 ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gが基準距離 P G sよりも小さく、基準ィンク吐出 速度 V ί sよりも速いインク吐出速度 V iでインク滴を吐出している。この場 合、インク滴が着弾する位置は、インク滴を吐出した時のノズルの位置から V c XPG/V iだけ走査方向にずれた位置である。 仮に、基準位置でインクを 吐出すると、インク滴は、着弾目標位置よりも(V s XPG s/V i s) - (V c XPG/V i) だけ手前に着弾す 。 したがって、着弾目標位置にインク滴 を着弾させる(紙の所定の位置にドットを形成させる)ためには、ノズルが(V s XPG s/V i s) — (V c X PG/V i ) だけ基準位置を通り越えたタイ ミングで、 ノズルからインク滴を吐出する必要がある。 言いかえると、 キヤリ ッジ 41が基準速度 V sよりも低速で移動し、ノズルから紙までの距離 PGが 基準距離 PG sよりも小さく、基準インク吐出速度 V i sよりも速いインク吐 出速度 V iでィンク滴を吐出する場合、着弾目標位置にィンク滴を着弾させる には、インク滴を吐出するタイミングを、 キャリッジ 41が基準位置に到達し てから (基準タイミングから) 所定の時間だけ遅延させる必要がある。
すなわち、 本実施形態では、 遅延させるタイミングを求めるときに、 キヤリ ッジの移動速度 V c、ノズルから紙までの距離 P G及びィンク吐出速度 V iを 考慮していることになる。
なお、予め設定する基準速度 V sが走査速度 V aよりも速ければ、後述する ィンクの吐出のタイミングは、加減速領域だけでなく、走査領域についても適 用することができる。
く遅延させるタイミングについて >
上記の通り、着弾目標位置にィンク滴を着弾させるには、 ノズルが基準位置 を (V s X PG s/V i s) 一 (Vc XP G/V i ) だけ通り越すような遅延 したタイミングで、 ノズルからインク滴を吐出する必要がある。 そこで、本実 施形態では、下記の通り、 リニア式エンコーダ 51のパルス ENCの周期を n 分割し、遅延量に相当する m段目を算出し、インク滴の吐出のタイミングを制 御している。
図 1 1Aは、 リニア式エンコーダ 51の出力信号の波形を示している。 リニ ァ式エンコーダ 51から 1周期分のパスル ENCが出力されることは、キヤリ ッジ 41がリニアスケール 5 1 1のスリツトの間隔を移動することを意味す る。 例えば、 リニアスケール 51 1のスリツト間隔が lZl 80インチである ときに、 リニア式エンコーダ 51から 1周期分のパルス信号が出力されると、 キャリッジ 41が 1ノ180インチ移動したことになる。 つまり、 この場合の リニア式エンコーダ 51によるキヤリッジ 41の位置検出の解像度は、 1 1 80インチである。
図 1 1 Bは、 キヤリッジ 41が基準速度 V sで移動し、 ノズルから紙までの 距離が基準距離 P G sであり、基準ィンク吐出速度 V i sでィンク滴を吐出す るときのへッド駆動信号である。 ヘッド 21のノズルは、 このへッド駆動信号 が入力されるタイミングに応じて、 インクを吐出する。 この場合のキヤリッジ 41は基準速度 V sで移動しているので、へッド駆動信号は、 キャリッジ 41 が基準位置に到達したタイミングで発せられ、そのタイミングでィンクが吐出 される。 ここで、 キャリッジ 41の位置の検出はリニア式エンコーダ 51の解 像度の範囲内で行われているので、へッド駆動信号は、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1のパルス信号の立ち上がりエッジと同じタイミングで発せられる。

29 のため、 この場合、 インク滴は、 基準タイミングから遅延したタイミングで吐 出される。 なお、 キャリッジ 41の速度 Vcの算出については、 後述する。 本実施形態では、 リニア式エンコーダ 51のパルス ENCの周期を n分割し、 遅延量に相当する m段目を算出し、 m段目に相当するタイミングでへッド駆動 信号を発するように制御している。
すなわち、 まず、 リニア式エンコーダ 51のパルス ENCの直前の周期 Tを n分割している (又は、 1周期分の移動距離; を n分割している) 。 1周期を n分割した場合、 リニアスケール 51 1のスリ ッ ト間隔が λであると、 1段が λΖηに相当する。 例えば、 1周期を 128分割した場合、 リニアスケール 5 1 1のスリ ット間隔が lZl 80インチであると、 1段が約 1. l ^mに相当 する。 なお、 nは、 制御ユニット 60の計算の都合のため、 2の累乗であるこ とが望ましい。
次に、へッド駆動信号を遅延させるに必要な量力 何段目に相当するかを算 出する。 遅延量に相当するタイミングを m段目とすると、 m= (捕正距離) / (λ/η) となる。 なお、補正距離は、上記の通り、 (V s XPG s/V i s) 一 (V c X PG/V i ) である。 つまり、 mは、 以下の式で算出される。 m = -Lx{(Vsx¾ -(VcX i) }

そして、へッド駆動信号は、 リニア式エンコーダ 51のパルス信号の立ち上 がりエッジから m段目に相当する時間になったら発せられる。すなわち、へッ ド駆動信号は、 リニア式エンコーダ 51のパルス信号の立ち上がりエッジから m段目に相当する遅延したタイミングで発せられる。 これにより、 ノズルが基 準位置を (V s X P G s /V i s ) — (V c X P G/V i ) だけ通り越すよう な遅延したタイミングで、 ノズルからインク滴を吐出することができる。
上記の数 1式からも分かる通り、 キヤリッジ 4 1の速度 V cが小さいほど、 大きく遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出する。 一方、 速度 V cが大きいほ ど、 小さく遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出する。 また、 ノズルから紙ま での距離 P Gが小さいほど、大きく遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出する。 一方、 距離 P Gが大きいほど、 小さく遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出す る。 また、 インク滴の鉛直方向の吐出速度 V iが遅いほど、 小さく遅延させた タイミングでインクを吐出する。 一方、 吐出速度 V iが速いほど、 大きく遅延 させたタイミングでインクを吐出する。
本実施形態によれば、 ノズルからのィンクの吐出のタイミングが、 キヤリッ ジの移動速度 V c、ノズルから紙までの距離 P G及びィンク吐出速度 V iに基 づいて、 基準位置から遅延したタイミングになるように制御されている。 これ により、 本実施形態のプリンタは、 精密な印刷ができる。
なお、 上述した実施形態では、 説明を簡単にするため、 インク滴の数を制限 しているが、 ノズルからインクが断続的に吐出される場合であっても、各イン ク滴の吐出のタイミングは、 同様に制御されている。
= = =基準速度の設定二 = =
次に、 上述した基準速度をどのような速度に設定するかを説明する。
くへッドの駆動周期の限界について〉
図 1 2は、へッド駆動信号の波形を示している。 へッドのノズルはィンクを 断続的に吐出するので、へッドには、所定の周期でインク吐出のための駆動信 号が入力される。へッドにはインクを吐出するための素子としてピエゾ素子が 設けられており、 ピエゾ素子に所定の形状の駆動信号が入力されることによつ て、 ピエゾ素子が変位し、 ノズルからインクが吐出される。
へッド駆動信号のうちの最初の時間 T sは、 ピエゾ素子を変位させるのに必 要な時間である。 次に、ヘッド駆動信号のうちの時間 T rは、 変位したピエゾ 素子が元の状態に戻るのに必要な時間である。次に、ヘッド駆動信号のうちの 時間 Twは、 次の信号が入力されるまでの待機時間である。 図において、 イン クの断続的な吐出の周期は、 T c (=T s +T r +Tw) である。
次に、へッドの駆動周期の限界について考える。 ノズルからインクを吐出す るためには、ピエゾ素子に必要な変位を与えるための時間 T sは確保する必要 がある。 さらに、 時間 T rが確保されないと、 ピエゾ素子が元の状態に戻って いないので、次の信号が入力されても正しくインクを吐出することができない。 一方、 時間 Twが大きいと、 インクの断続的な吐出の周期が遅くなるので、 プ リンタの印刷速度が遅くなる。 したがって、 へッドの駆動周期の限界は、 T s + T r (=T 1 ) である。 なお、 インクの吐出量に応じてピエゾの変位量が異 なるので、時間 T sはインクの吐出量に応じて異なる。 このような場合にへッ ドの駆動周期の限界を考えるときは、 T sが最大のもの (例えば大ドットを形 成するときの T s) を基準にする。
<基準速度について〉
紙に形成するドットの間隔は、プリンタの設定や性能により、定まっている。 例えば、プリンタの設定が 180 d p iの場合、紙に形成するドットの間隔は、 1/180インチである。
基準速度 V sは、このドットの間隔で印刷することができる最大のキヤリッ ジ速度として定められる。 ここで、 へッドの限界駆動周期を T 1とし、紙に形 成するドットの間隔を Lとすると、基準速度 V sは、 V s=L/T 1として設 定される。
なお、 基準速度よりも速い速度でキャリッジ (すなわちノズル) が移動した 場合、 ( 1 ) へッドが駆動周期の限界でィンクを吐出すれば、 ドットの間隔が 広がってしまい、 (2) ドットの間隔を維持すれば、 時間 T rが確保されず、 ピエゾ素子が元の状態に戻っていないので、正しくィンクを吐出することがで きない。
<基準速度と目標速度の関係 >
図 1 3は、 図 9に示したキャリッジの目標移動速度と、 エンコーダによって 検出されたキヤリッジの移動速度に関するグラフである。 同図に示す通り、検 出されたキャリッジの移動速度 (すなわちノズルの移動速度) は、 モータのコ ギングゃプ一リのむらによって、 目標移動速度と異なった値となっている。 同図の通り、 基準速度 V sは、 目標移動速度の最速値 V aよりも速いように 設定されている (つまり、 目標移動速度の最速値 V aは、 基準速度よりも遅い ように設定されている) 。 これにより、 キャリッジが加減速領域にあるときで あっても、 キャリッジが定速領域にあるときであっても、 インク吐出のタイミ ングの遅延量 mを同様の計算によって、 算出することができる。
さらに、 基準速度 V sは、 目標移動速度の最速値よりも、 4〜6 % (より望 ましくは 4〜5 . 5 %) だけ速い。 これにより、 実際のキャリッジの移動速度 (検出されたキャリッジの移動速度) が目標移動速度と一致していなくても、 実際のキヤリッジの移動速度が基準速度よりも速くなる事態を避けることが できる。そして、その結果、へッドは、正しくインクを吐出することができる。 なお、基準速度 V sが目標移動速度の最速値よりも 4〜 6 %だけ速くなるよう に設定されているのは、 (1 ) モータのコギングゃプーリのむらによる目標移 動速度に対するずれが、 0 . 2〜1 . 5 %程度であるので、 4〜6 %も確保す れば+分であるためであり、 ( 2 )基準速度と目標速度との差が大きすぎると、 キヤリッジの移動速度が遅くなつてしまい、プリンタの印刷速度の低下が大き くなつてしまうためである。
<基準速度と V cの関係〉
以上説明したように、検出されたキヤリッジの移動速度は、 基準速度 V sを 越えることは原則として無いことになる。 したがって、通常は、遅延量 mの計 算に用いられるキヤリッジの速度 V cは、エンコーダによって検出されたキヤ リッジの速度をそのまま用いれば良い。
し力 し、例えばキヤリッジに何らかの負荷がかかり、 キヤリッジの移動速度 が基準速度 V sを越えてしまうと、へッドの駆動周期の限界を超えてへッド駆 動信号が出力されてしまう事態や、ィンク吐出のタイミングの遅延量 mがマイ ナスになる事態が生じてしまい、 印刷ができなくなることがある。
そこで、 図 1 4の太線に示すように、検出されたキヤリッジの移動速度が基 準速度 V sを越えてしまった場合、遅延量 mの計算に用いられるキヤリッジの 速度 V cは、 基準速度 V sと等しいものとする (つまり、遅延量 mはゼロとな り、基準速度 V sでキヤリッジが移動していたときと同じタイミングでインク を吐出する) 。
これにより、 できるだけ正しい位置にインク滴を着弾させつつ、へッドの能 力を超えて印刷を行う事態を避けることができる。

く平均速度について >
リニァ式エンコーダの直前の周期 Tを用いてキヤリッジ 4 1の速度 V cを V c == λノ Tとして算出すると、 リニァ式エンコーダの出力に誤差が入ってい る場合や、 コギング等の速度のばらつきがある場合等に、正確な位置にインク を着弾できないことがある。
そこで、本実施形態では、 リニア式エンコーダを用いて、 キャリッジの移動 する速度 (すなわちノズルの移動する速度) を順次検出して、複数の検出され た速度から平均速度を算出し、 この平均速度に基づいて、 インク吐出のタイミ ングの遅延量 mを算出している。
図 1 5は、キヤリッジが移動しているときのリニア式エンコーダ 5 1の出力 信号の波形を示している。 なお、 同図において、 キャリッジは、 Aの位置にあ るものとする。 したがって、 区間 A〜Dの信号は既に出力された信号であり、 区間 A~ Xの信号は、 将来予想される出力信号である。
同図では、計測誤差又はコギング等のため、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1のパル ス信号の周期にばらつきがある。 そのため、 仮に、 スリット間隔えを直前の周 期 T 1で割って V cを算出し、その V cに基づいて区間 A〜Xでのインク吐出 の遅延量 mを算出したとすると、 大きな誤差が含まれることがある。
そこで、 より正確な遅延量 mを算出するため、本実施形態では、 以下のよう にして区間 A〜Xでの速度 V cを算出し、 遅延量 mを算出している。
まず、 区間 D〜Cの周期 T 3に基づいて、 この区間でのキャリッジの速度 V 3を検出する。 同様に、 区間 C〜Bでのキャリッジの速度 V 2、及び区間 B〜 Aでのキヤリッジの速度 V 1を検出する。 そして、複数の検出された速度に基 づいて、 キャリッジの平均速度 V = (V 3 + V 2 + V 1 ) Z 3を算出する。 こ の場合、順次に検出されるキヤリッジの速度は、 メモリに記憶されているのが 良い。 算出した平均速度は、 区間 A〜Xでのキヤリッジの速度 V cとしてみな され、 遅延量 πιの算出に用いられる。
なお、 インクの吐出のタイミングは、 Aの立ち上がりエッジを基準として、 この基準から遅延量 mだけ遅延させたところである。
以上の説明では、 区間 D〜Aの平均速度に基づいて、基準 Aからの遅延量 m を算出していた。しかし、遅延量 mの算出に時間を要することがある。そこで、 Bより以前の区間で速度を検出し、区間 B〜 Aにおいて平均速度と遅延量 mと を算出し、基準 Aから遅延量 mだけ遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出して も民い。
以上のように、本実施形態では、 キヤリッジの平均速度に基づいてィンク吐 出のタイミングを制御しているので、検出される速度や周期に誤差があっても、 ィンクの着弾位置のずれを軽減することができる。

く遅延量 mの算出について〉
キヤリッジが一定の速度で移動中であれば、キヤリッジの移動する速度 V c は、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1のパルス周期丁とリニアスケールのスリット間隔 えとから、 V c = /Tとして算出することができる。
し力 し、 キヤリッジが加速又は減速して移動している場合、 キヤリッジの移 動する速度 V cを V c = A ZTとしてインク吐出の遅延量 mを算出しても、ィ ンクを吐出するときのキヤリッジの速度は; ZTと異なっているので(すなわ ち、 周期 Τが過去のものであるので) 、 目標位置にインクを着弾できない。 そこで、本実施形態では、ィンクを吐出するときのキヤリッジの速度 V cを 求めるため、 キャリッジの加速度 (すなわちノズルの加速度) を考慮して、 速 度 V cを算出している。 さらに、本実施形態では、複数の検出した速度に基づ いてキャリッジの加速度 (すなわちノズルの加速度) を算出し、算出された加 速度に基づいて速度 V cを算出している。
図 1 6は、キヤリッジが加速しているときのリニア式エンコーダ 5 1の出力 信号の波形を示している。 なお、 キャリッジは、 Αの位置にあるものとする。 したがって、 区間 A~Dの信号は既に出力された信号であり、 区間 A〜Xの信 号は、 将来予想される出力信号である。
同図では、 キヤリッジが加速しているため、速度が徐々に速くなつていくの で、 周期 Tは、徐々に短くなつている。 したがって、 捋来予想される出力信号 の周期 T Oは、直前の T 1よりも短くなることが予想される。そのため、仮に、 スリツト間隔 λを周期 T 1 (または、 それ以前の周期 Τ 2等) で割って V cを 算出し、その V cに基づいて区間 Α〜Χでのインク吐出の遅延量 mを算出した とすると、 遅延量が大きくなつてしまう。 そこで、 より正確な遅延量を算出するため、 本実施形態では、 以下のように して区間 A〜Xでの速度 V cを算出し、 遅延量 mを算出している。
まず、 区間 C〜Bの周期 T 2に基づいて、 この区間でのキャリッジの速度 V 2を検出する。 同様に、 区間 B〜Aの周期 T 1に基づいて、 この区間でのキヤ リッジの速度 V 1を検出する。 なお、検出された速度は、 メモリに記憶されて いる。 そして、 検出された速度 V Iと V 2の差分に基づいて、 キャリッジの加 速度を検出する。 キャリッジの加速度が分かれば、 区間 A〜Xでの将来予想さ れるキヤリッジの速度 V 0及び将来予想される周期 T 0を算出することがで きる。 キャリッジの速度 V Oが算出できれば、その速度 V Oを V cとして利用 し、 遅延量 mを算出することができる。
なお、 インクの吐出のタイミングは、 Aの立ち上がりエッジを基準として、 この基準から遅延量 mだけ遅延させたところである。
以上の説明では、区間 C〜B及び区間 B〜Aでの速度 V 2、 V 1に基づいて、 加速度を算出し、 基準 Aからの遅延量 mを算出していた。 し力 し、 遅延量 mの 算出に時間を要することがある。 そこで、区間 D〜C及び区間 C〜Bでの速度 V 3、 V 2を検出し、区間 B〜 Aにおいて加速度と V 0と遅延量 mとを算出し、 基準 Aから遅延量 mだけ遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出しても良い。 また、 V 3及び V 2の差分と V 2及ぴ V Iの差分とに基づいて、平均加速度 を算出し、算出された平均加速度に基づいて、 区間 A〜Xでの将来予想される キャリッジの速度 V O (= V c ) と遅延量 mを算出しても良い。
また、キヤリッジが遅延量分だけ移動する間もキヤリッジの速度が変化して いるので、 この遅延量をも考慮して、 キャリッジの加速度に基づいて、速度 V cを算出しても良い。
なお、本実施形態では、 キヤリッジの加速度が正であるので、周期 Tが徐々 に短くなり、 インク吐出のタイミングの周期も短くなる。 一方、 キャリッジの 加速度が負であるとき (キャリッジが減速しているとき) は、 周期 Tが徐々に 長くなり、 インク吐出のタイミングの周期は長くなる。
<基準信号の発生について 1〉
リユア式エンコーダ 5 1の位置検出の解像度よりも短い間隔でィンク滴の 吐出を行う場合がある。例えば、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1の解像度が l Z l 8 0インチであるときに、 1 / 7 2 0インチの間隔でインクの吐出を行う場合で ある。
このような場合、通常は、 リニア式エンコーダの直前のパルス周期 τを例え ば 4分割した間隔で基準信号を発生させ、この基準信号をトリガーとしてイン クの吐出を行っていた。
し力 し、 直前のパルス周期 Tに大きな検出誤差が含まれていると、インクが 等間隔に着弾されない。
そこで、 インクが着弾する間隔を等間隔にするため、複数の検出されたキヤ リッジの速度に基づいて、 区間 A〜Xの将来予想される周期 T Oを算出し、算 出された周期 T 0が等間隔に分割されるように、ィンクを吐出するタイミング の基準となる信号を発生させる。
このように、複数の検出された信号の平均に基づいてィンク吐出のタイミン グの基準となる信号を発生しているので、検出される速度や周期に誤差があつ ても、 インクの着弾位置のずれを軽減することができる。
<基準信号の発生について 2 >
さらに、 キヤリッジが加速又は減速して移動している場合、パルス周期 Tを 分割した間隔が均等であると、 インクが等間隔に着弾されない。
そこで、本実施形態では、 インクが着弾する間隔を等間隔にするため、 ェン コーダの複数の検出結果に基づいて、 キヤリッジの加速度(すなわちノズルの 加速度) を算出して、インクを吐出するタイミングの基準となる信号を発生さ せている。
図 1 7 Aは、図 1 6の区間 A〜Xでの将来予 される出力信号の波形を示し ている。 なお、 この出力信号の周期 Τ 0は、 上述した通り、 エンコーダの複数 の検出結果から算出されたキヤリッジの加速度に基づいて、算出されたもので ある。
図 1 7 Βは、パルス周期 Τ 0を分割しない場合の基準信号の波形を示してい る。 同図の基準信号は、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1の立ち上がりエッジに基づい て、 発生される。 つまり、 パルス周期 T Oを分割しないときは、 リユア式ェン コーダ 5 1の立ち上がりエッジに基づいて、基準信号を発生させることができ る。 したがって、 このような場合は、 基準信号を発生させるときに、 キヤリツ ジの加速度を必要としない。 ただし、 この基準信号を基準に、 キャリッジの加 速度に応じた遅延量 mのタイミングで、 インクが吐出される。
図 1 7 Cは、パルス周期 T 0を 4分割したときの基準信号の波形を示してい る。 同図では、 キヤリッジが加速しているため、速度が徐々に速くなつていく ので、 基準信号 P a〜P dの間隔は、 徐々に短くなつている。
ここで、基準信号 P aは、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1の立ち上がりエッジに基 づいて、 発生される。 そして、 基準信号 P bは、 基準信号 P aから時間 T O a を経た後に発生される。 この時間 T O aの算出は、 キヤリッジの加速度に基づ いて、 P a〜P b間での将来予想されるキヤリッジの速度を算出して、求めら れる。 但し、 キャリッジの加速度の検出は、 上述したものと同様である。 さら に、 時間 T 0 b、 T 0 cは、 時間 T 0 aの算出と同様に、 キヤリッジの加速度 に基づいて求められる。 基準信号 P dと次の基準信号との間の時間は、特に計 算する必要はない。 基準信号 P dの次の基準信号は、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1 の立ち上がりエッジに基づいて発生させれば良いからである。 なお、 インクの吐出のタイミングは、各基準信号から遅延量 mだけ遅延させ たところである。 ただし、 遅延量 mの算出は、 上述したものと同様である。 本実施形態では、 キャリッジの加速度が正であるので、基準信号の間隔が短 くなり、 インク吐出のタイミングの周期も短くなる。 一方、 キャリッジの加速 度が負であるとき (キャリッジが減速しているとき) は、 基準信号の間隔が長 くなり、 インク吐出のタイミングの周期は長くなる。
以上のように、 キヤリッジの加速度 (つまりノズルの加速度) に基づいて、 ィンク吐出の遅延量及び基準信号を算出すれば、 目標位置にィンクを着弾させ ることができるので、 高精度な印刷を行うことができる。
===コンピュータシステム等の構成 ===
次に、本発明に係る実施形態の一例であるコンピュータシステム、 コンビュ ータプログラム、及び、 コンピュータプログラムを記録した記録媒体の実施形 態について、 図面を参照しながら説明する。
図 18は、 コンピュータシステムの外観構成を示した説明図である。 コンビ ユータシステム 1000は、 コンピュータ本体 1 102と、表示装置 1 104 と、 プリンタ 1 106と、 入力装置 1 108と、 読取装置 1 110とを備えて いる。 コンピュータ本体 1 102は、本実施形態ではミニタワー型の筐体に収 納されているが、 これに限られるものではない。 表示装置 1 104は、 CRT (Cathode Ray Tube:陰極線管) やプラズマディスプレイや液晶表示装置等が 用いられるのが一般的であるが、 これに限られるものではない。 プリンタ 1 1 06は、 上記に説明されたプリンタが用いられている。 入力装置 1 108は、 本実施形態ではキーボード 1 108Aとマウス 1 108 Bが用いられている が、 これに限られるものではない。 読取装置 1 1 10は、 本実施形態ではフレ キシブルディスクドライブ装置 1 1 10 とじ0— 1^01^ドライブ装置 1 1 10 Bが用いられているが、これに限られるものではなく、例えば MO (Magnet Optical) ディスクドライブ装置や DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) 等の他 のものであっても良い。
図 19は、図 18に示したコンピュータシステムの構成を示すプロック図で ある。 コンピュータ本体 1102が収納された筐体内に RAM等の内部メモリ 1202と、ハードディスクドライブュエツト 1204等の外部メモリがさら に設けられている。上述したプリンタの動作を制御するコンピュータプログラ ムは、記録媒体であるフレキシブルデイスク FDや CD— ROM等に記録され、 読取装置 11 10により読みこまれる。 また、 コンピュータプログラムは、 ィ ンターネット等の通信回線を介して、コンピュータシステム 1000にダウン ロードされるようにしても良い。
なお、 以上の説明においては、 プリンタ 1 106力 コンピュータ本体 1 1 02、 表示装置 1104、 入力装置 1 108、 及び、 読取装置 1110と接続 されてコンピュータシステムを構成した例について説明したが、これに限られ るものではない。 例えば、 コンピュータシステムが、 コンピュータ本体 110 2とプリンタ 1 106から構成されても良く、コンピュータシステムが表示装 置 1 104、入力装置 1 108及び読取装置 1 1 10のいずれかを備えていな くても良い。また、例えば、プリンタ 1 106力 コンピュータ本体 1 102、 表示装置 1 104、 入力装置 1 108、 及び、 読取装置 1 1 10のそれぞれの 機能又は機構の一部を持っていても良い。 一例として、 プリンタ 1 106力 画像処理を行う画像処理部、 各種の表示を行う表示部、 及び、 デジタルカメラ 等により撮影された画像データを記録した記録メディアを着脱するための記 録メディア着脱部等を有する構成としても良い。
また、 上述した実施形態において、 プリンタを制御するコンピュータプログ ラムが、 制御ユニット 60のメモリ 65に取り込まれていても良い。 そして、 制御ュニット 6 0力 このコンピュータプログラムを実行することにより、 上 述した実施形態におけるプリンタの動作を達成しても良い。
このようにして実現されたコンピュータシステムは、システム全体として従 来システムよりも優れたシステムとなる。

以上、 一実施形態に基づき、本発明に係るプリンタ等を説明したが、 上記の 実施形態は、本発明の理解を容易にするためのものであり、本発明を限定して 解釈するためのものではない。本発明は、その趣旨を逸脱することなく、変更、 改良され得ると共に、本発明にはその等価物が含まれることは言うまでもない。 特に、以下に述べる実施形態であっても、本発明に係る印刷装置に含まれるも のである。
くタイミング制御を行う領域について〉
前述の実施形態によれば、キヤリッジが加減速領域及ぴ定速領域のいずれに あるときでも、遅延量 mを求めて、ィンク吐出のタイミングを遅延させていた。 し力 し、 これに限られるものではない。 例えば、 キャリッジが加速又は減速し て移動しているときにだけ(又は加速及び減速して移動しているときにだけ)、 遅延量 mを求めてインク吐出のタイミングを制御しても良い。 定速領域では、 キヤリッジの速度変化による着弾位置のずれが小さいので、無視できる場合が あるからである。
く距離 P Gの検出について〉
前述の実施形態によれば、へッド 2 1のノズルから紙までの距離 P Gは、 ギ ヤップセンサ 5 4によって検出されていた。 し力 し、 ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gの検出は、 ギャップセンサ 5 4を用いるものに限られるものではない。 例えば、被印刷体である紙の種類についての情報を予め得ていれば、紙の種 類から紙の厚さが分かるので、ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gを検出することが 可能である。 この場合、紙の種類と距離 P Gとの関係に関する情報をテーブル としてメモリ 6 5に記憶しておくのが良い。 また、 この場合、 プリンタ又はプ リンタに接続されるコンピュータ力 印刷される紙の種類を入力する入力手段 を有しているのが良い。例えば、ユーザがユーザーインターフェースによって 印刷する紙の種類を入力し、 コンピュータ又はプリンタが、 メモリに記憶され たテーブルに基づいて、 紙の種類から距離 P Gを検出しても良い。
さらに、 プリンタが、被印刷体である紙を収容するトレイを複数有している ならば、 トレイに関する情報から収容している紙の情報を得ることもできるの で、 トレイに関する情報に基づいて、 ノズルから紙までの距離 P Gを検出する ことが可能である。 この場合、 トレイに収容されている紙に関する情報をメモ リ 6 5に記億しておくのが良い。
<キャリッジの速度の検出について〉
前述の実施形態によれば、 キヤリッジの速度は、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1に よって検出されていた。 し力 し、 キャリッジの速度の検出は、 リニア式ェンコ ーダ 5 1を用いるものに限られるものではない。例えば、 C P U 6 1や D Cュ ニット 6 6から C Rモータドライブに与えられる駆動指令に基づいて、キヤリ ッジの速度を検出しても良レ、。
くキヤリッジの加速度の検出について >
前述の実施形態によれば、 キヤリッジの加速度は、 リニア式エンコーダ 5 1 によって検出されていた。 しかし、 キャリッジの加速度の検出は、 リニア式ェ ンコーダ 5 1を用いるものに限られるものではない。例えば、 C P U 6 1や D Cュニット 6 6から C Rモータドライブに与えられる駆動指令に基づいて、キ ャリッジの速度を検出しても良い。
くインクの速度 V iの検出について >
前述の実施形態によれば、インクの速度 V iは、吐出するインクの量によつ て、 検出されていた。 し力 し、 インクの速度の検出は、 これに限られるもので はない。例えば、環境温度の変化に応じてインクの粘度が変化してインクの速 度 V iも変わるので、 温度に基づいて、 インクの速度を検出しても良い。 この 場合、インクの速度 V iと温度との関係に関する情報をテーブルとしてメモリ 6 5に記憶しておくのが良い。
また、印刷モードによって吐出インク量が異なるならば、ユーザがインター フェースによって選択した印刷モードに基づいて、インクの速度 V iを検出し ても良い。
<ギヤップセンサについて >
前述の実施形態によれば、 ギヤップセンサ 5 4は、 1つの発光部と 2つの受 光部とを有しており、この構成によってノズルから紙 Sまでの距離 P Gを検出 していた。 し力、し、 ギャップセンサの構成は、 これに限られるものではない。 例えば、 2つの発光部と 1つの受光部とを有するセンサであっても、 2つの発 光部での発光を切りかえることにより、ノズルから紙 Sまでの距離 P Gを検出 することができる。
また、 前述の実施形態によれば、発光部から発せられた光のうち、紙 Sで正 反射した光を受光部で検出していたが、 紙 Sで拡散した光を検出しても良い。 また、 その他の方法によって、 ノズルから紙 Sまでの距離 P Gを検出しても 良いことは言うまでもない。
くノズノレについて >
前述の実施形態によれば、 ノズルはへッド 2 1に設けられ、へッド 2 1はキ ャリッジ 4 1に設けられていたので、ノズルはキヤリッジ 4 1と一体的に設け られていた。 し力 し、 ノズノレやヘッド 2 1の構成は、 これに限られるものでは ない。 例えば、 ノズルやへッドが、 カートリッジ 4 8 (図 2参照) と一体的に 設けられ、 キャリッジ 4 1に対して着脱可能であっても良い。 <ィンクの吐出方法について >
前述の実施形態によれば、インクの吐出にピエゾ素子を用いていた。 し力 し、 インクを吐出するための素子は、 これに限られるものではない。 例えば、 ヒー タによってインクを沸騰させ、泡によってインクを吐出させるものであっても 良いし、 他の素子によってインク滴を吐出するようにしても良い。
産業上の利用可能性
本発明の第 1の態様の印刷装置によれば、ィンク吐出部から被印刷体までの 距離を考慮して、 インクを吐出するタイミングを制御することができる。 これ により、 従来と比較して、 高精度な印刷を行うことが可能となる。
本発明の第 2の態様の印刷装置によれば、 インクの吐出のタイミングが、 ノ ズノレの移動速度によって、 インクの吐出の基準となるタイミングに対し、 早い タイミングになることを防ぐことができる。
本発明の第 3の態様の印刷装置によれば、ィンク吐出部の加速度を考慮して、 インクを吐出するタイミングを制御することができる。 これにより、 従来と比 較して、 高精度な印刷を行うことが可能となる。
本発明の第 4の態様の印刷装置によれば、複数の検出された信号に基づいて インク吐出のタイミングを制御しているので、検出される速度に誤差が含まれ ていても、 インクの着弾位置のずれを軽減することができる。

前記インク吐出部から前記被印刷体までの距離を検出し、 検出された前記距離に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前記ィン クの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。

移動しながらインクを吐出するィンク吐出部、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
前記インク吐出部の目標速度の最速値を基準速度よりも遅くして、 前記目標速度に沿うようにィンク吐出部を移動させ、
前記ィンク吐出部が前記基準速度で移動するときのインクの吐出の タイミングを基準タイミングとした場合、 前記ィンク吐出部の移動速 度と前記基準速度とに基づいて、 前記基準タイミングから遅延したタ ィミングで前記ィンクを吐出する。 - 2 1 . クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、 前記基準速度は、 前記ィンク吐出部がィンクを吐出することができ る周期に基づいて、 設定される。
2 . クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記基準速度は、 前記被印刷体に形成されるドットの間隔に基づい て、 設定される。
3 . クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動速度が遅いほど、 前記ィンクを吐出するタ ィミングが遅延する。
2 4 クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記インク吐出部の移動速度は、 エンコーダによって検出される。
2 5 クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動速度と前記基準速度とに基づく前記タイミ ングの制御は、 前記ィンク吐出部が加速又は減速して移動していると きに行う。
2 6 クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記基準速度は、前記目標速度の最速値よりも、 4〜6 %だけ速い。
2 7 クレーム 2 0に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記インク吐出部の移動速度が前記基準速度よりも速いとき、 前記 基準タイミングでィンクを吐出する。
2 8 . 被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷装置は、 以下を有する、
移動しながらインクを吐出するインク吐出部、
ここで、 前記印 装置は、
基準速度が前記ィンク吐出部の目標速度の最速値よりも、 4〜 6 % だけ速くして、 +
前記目標速度に沿うようにィンク吐出部を移動させ、 前記ィンク吐出部が前記基準速度で移動するときのインクの吐出の タイミングを基準タイミングとした場合、 前記インク吐出部の移動速 度と前記基準速度とに基づいて、 前記基準タイミングから遅延したタ ィミングで前記ィンクを吐出し、
前記ィンク吐出部がィンクを吐出することができる周期に基づいて、 前記基準速度を設定し、
前記被印刷体に形成されるドットの間隔に基づいて、 前記基準速度 を設定し、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動速度が遅いほど、 前記ィンクを吐出するタ イミングを遅延させ。
前記インク吐出部の移動速度をエンコーダによって検出し、 前記ィンク吐出部が加速又は減速して移動しているときに、 前記ィ ンク吐出部の移動速度と前記基準速度とに基づく前記タイミングを制 御し、
前記インク吐出部の移動速度が前記基準速度よりも速いとき、 前記 基準タイミングでィンクを吐出する。
9 被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷方法において、
前記ィンク吐出部の目標速度の最速値を基準速度よりも遅くし、 前記目標速度に沿うようにィンク吐出部を移動させ、
前記ィンク吐出部が前記基準速度で移動するときのインクの吐出の タイミングを基準タイミングとした場合、 前記ィンク吐出部の移動速 度と前記基準速度とに基づいて、 前記基準タイミングから遅延したタ ィミングで前記ィンクを吐出する。

前記インク吐出部の前記目標速度の最速値を基準速度よりも遅くする機能 と、
前記目標速度に沿うようにインク吐出部を移動させる機能と、

前記目標速度に沿うようにインク吐出部を移動させる機能と、 前記ィンク吐出部が基準速度で移動するときのィンクの吐出のタイ ミングを基準タイミングとした場合、 前記インク吐出部の移動速度と 前記所定の速度とに基づいて、 前記基準タイミングから遅延したタイ ミングで前記ィンクを吐出する機能と
を実現させる。
3 2 . コンピュータシステムは、 以下を有する、
コンピュータと、
該コンピュータに接続された印刷装置、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
移動しながらインクを吐出するインク吐出部を有し、
前記インク吐出部の目標速度の最速値を基準速度よりも遅くして、 前記目標速度に沿うようにィンク吐出部を移動させ、 前記ィンク吐出部が前記基準速度で移動するときのィンクの吐出の タイミングを基準タィミングとした場合、 前記ィンク吐出部の移動速 度と前記基準速度とに基づいて、 前記基準タィミングから遅延したタ ィミングで前記ィンクを吐出する。
3 3 . 被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷装置は、 以下を有する、
移動しながらィンクを断続的に吐出するインク吐出部、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
移動する前記インク吐出部の加速度に応じて、 前記インク吐出部か らの前記インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
3 4 . クレーム 3 3に記載の印刷装置において、
前記インク吐出部の位置を検出する位置検出部を更に有し、 前記ィンクの断続的な吐出のタイミングの周期は、 前記位置検出部 による位置の検出の周期よりも短い。
3 5 . クレーム 3 3に記載の印刷装置において、
前記移動するインク吐出部の加速度が正であるとき、 前記インクの 断続的な吐出のタイミングの周期は、 短くなり、
前記移動するインク吐出部の加速度が負であるとき、 前記ィンクの 断続的な吐出のタイミングの周期は、 長くなる。
3 6 . クレーム 3 3に記載の印刷装置において、
前記印刷装置は、 前記移動するインク吐出部の加速度に基づいて、 将来の前記ィンク吐出部の速度を算出し、
前記タイミングは、算出された前記ィンク吐出部の速度に基づいて、 制御される。
3 7 . クレーム 3 6に記載の印刷装置において、
前記印刷装置は、 前記インク吐出部の速度を検出し、 前記印刷装置は、 検出された速度に基づいて、 前記将来のインク吐 出部の速度を算出する。
. クレーム 3 6に記載の印刷装置において、
前記算出されたインク吐出部の速度が、 基準となる速度よりも遅い とき、
前記ィンク吐出部は、 前記基準となる速度で前記ィンク吐出部が移 動しているときの前記インクの吐出のタイミングと比較して、 遅延し たタイミングで前記ィンクを吐出する。
9 . クレーム 3 8に記載の印刷装置において、
前記インク吐出部の移動する速度が遅くなるほど、 前記インクを吐 出するタイミングが遅延する。

前記印刷装置は、 前記算出されたインク吐出部の速度に基づいて、 ィンク吐出の遅延量を算出し、
前記インク吐出部は、 インクを吐出するタイミングの基準となる信 号から前記遅延量を遅延させて、 インクを吐出する。

移動しながらインクを断続的に吐出するィンク吐出部と、 前記ィンク吐出部の位置を検出する位置検出部、

前記印刷装置は、 移動する前記インク吐出部の加速度に応じて、 前 記インク吐出部からの前記インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御 し、
前記ィンクの断続的な吐出のタイミングの周期は、 前記位置検出部 による位置の検出の周期よりも短く、 前記移動するィンク吐出部の加速度が正であるとき、 前記ィンクの 断続的な吐出のタイミングの周期は、 短くなり、
前記移動するインク吐出部の加速度が負であるとき、 前記ィンクの 断続的な吐出のタイミングの周期は、 長くなり、
前記印刷装置は、 前記移動するインク吐出部の加速度に基づいて、 将来の前記ィンク吐出部の速度を算出し、
前記タイミングは、算出された前記ィンク吐出部の速度に基づいて、 制御され、
前記印刷装置は、 前記ィンク吐出部の速度を検出し、
前記印刷装置は、 検出された速度に基づいて、 前記将来のインク吐 出部の速度を算出し、
前記算出されたィンク吐出部の速度が基準となる速度よりも遅いと き、 前記インク吐出部は、 前記基準となる速度で前記インク吐出部が 移動しているときの前記インクの吐出のタイミングと比較して、 遅延 したタイミングで前記ィンクを吐出し、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動する速度が遅くなるほど、 前記インクを吐 出するタイミングが遅延し、
前記印刷装置は、 前記算出されたィンク吐出部の速度に基づいて、 ィンク吐出の遅延量を算出し、
前記ィンク吐出部は、 ィンクを吐出するタイミングの基準となる信 号から前記遅延量を遅延させて、 インクを吐出する。
被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷方法において、
移動するインク吐出部の加速度に応じて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの インクの吐出のタイミングを制御し、
移動するィンク吐出部からィンクを断続的に吐出し、 被印刷体に印 刷を行う。
4 3 . 移動するインク吐出部からインクを断続的に吐出し、被印刷体に 印刷を行う印刷装置に、
前記移動するィンク吐出部の加速度に応じて、前記ィンク吐出部からの前記 インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する機能を実現させるプログラム。 4 4 . 記録媒体は、 以下を有する、
プログラムを記録するためのメモリ、
ここで、前記プログラムは、移動するインク吐出部からインクを断続的に吐 出して被印刷体を印刷する印刷装置に、
移動するインク吐出部の加速度に応じて、前記インク吐出部からのインクの 吐出のタイミングを制御する機能を実現させる。

コンピュータと、
前記コンピュータに接続された印刷装置、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
移動するインク吐出部からインクを断続的に吐出し、 被印刷体に印 刷を行い、
前記移動するインク吐出部の加速度に応じて、 前記インク吐出部か らの前記インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
4 6 . 印刷装置は、 以下を有する、
ィンクを吐出するタイミングの基準となる信号を発生する信号発生 器ヽ
ここで、
前記信号を基準としてインク吐出部からィンクが吐出され、 前記信号は、 前記インク吐出部の加速度に応じて、 発生される。
7 . クレーム 4 6に記載の印刷装置において、 .
前記インク吐出部は、 前記信号を基準に、 前記インク吐出部の加速 度に応じて遅延させたタイミングでインクを吐出する。
4 8 . 被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷装置は、 以下を有する、
移動しながらィンクを断続的に吐出するインク吐出部、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動する速度を順次に検出し、
複数の前記検出された速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前 記ィンクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
4 9 . クレーム 4 8に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記印刷装置は、
前記複数の検出された速度に基づいて、 平均速度を算出し、 算出された前記平均速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前記 インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
5 0 . クレーム 4 9に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記算出された平均速度が、 基準となる速度よりも遅いとき、 前記ィンク吐出部が前記基準となる速度で移動しているときのイン クの吐出のタイミングと比較して、 遅延したタイミングで前記インク を吐出する。
5 1 . クレーム 4 9に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記算出された平均速度が遅いほど、 前記インクを吐出するタイミ ングが遅延する。
5 2 . クレーム 4 9に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記算出された平均速度に基づいて、インク吐出の遅延量を算出し、 前記インク吐出部は、 インクを吐出するタイミングの基準となる信 号から前記遅延量を遅延させて、 インクを吐出する。
3 . クレーム 4 8に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記複数の検出された速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部の加速度 界出し、
算出された加速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前記ィンク の断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
4 クレーム 4 8に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記検出された速度を記憶するメモリを更に有する。
5 クレーム 4 8に記載の印刷装置であって、
前記インク吐出部の移動する速度は、 エンコーダによって検出され る。
6 . 被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷装置は、 以下を有する、
移動しながらインクを断続的に吐出するィンク吐出部、
前記インク吐出部の移動する速度を検出するエンコーダ、
検出された速度を記憶するメモリ、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動する速度を順次に検出し、
複数の検出された速度に基づいて、 平均速度を算出し、
算出された前記平均速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前記 インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御し、
前記算出された平均速度が基準となる速度よりも遅いとき、 前記ィ ンク吐出部が前記基準となる速度で移動しているときのインクの吐出 のタイミングと比較して、遅延したタイミングで前記ィンクを吐出し、 前記算出された平均速度が遅いほど、 前記ィンクを吐出するタイミ ングが遅延し、 前記算出された平均速度に基づいて、ィンク吐出の遅延量を算出し、 前記ィンク吐出部は、 ィンクを吐出するタィミングの基準となる信 号から前記遅延量を遅延させて、 インクを吐出し、
前記複数の検出された速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部の加速度 を算出し、
算出された加速度に基づいて、 前記インク吐出部からの前記インク の断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
5 7 . 被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷方法であって、
前記ィンクを断続的に吐出するインク吐出部の移動する速度を順次 に検出し、
複数の前記検出された速度に基づいて、 前記インク吐出部からの前 記インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する。
5 8 . 移動するインク吐出部からインクを断続的に吐出し、被印刷体に 印刷を行う印刷装置に、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動する速度を順次に検出させる機能と、
複数の前記検出された速度に基づいて、前記ィンク吐出部からの前記ィンク の断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する機能と
を実現させることを特徴とするプログラム。
5 9 . 記録媒体は、 以下を有する、
プログラムを記録するためのメモリ、
ここで、前記プログラムは、移動するインク吐出部からインクを断続的に吐 出して被印刷体に印刷を行う印刷装置に、
前記ィンク吐出部の移動する速度を順次に検出させる機能と、 複数の前記検出された速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前 記インクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御する機能と を実現させる。

コンピュータと、
前記コンピュータシステムに接続可能な印刷装置、
ここで、 前記印刷装置は、
ィンクを断続的に吐出するインク吐出部の移動する速度を順次に検 出し、
複数の前記検出された速度に基づいて、 前記ィンク吐出部からの前 記ィンクの断続的な吐出のタイミングを制御し、
移動するインク吐出部からインクを断続的に吐出し、 被印刷体に印 刷を行う。
