<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
figs.

<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

HEATER OIL CARBURETOR WITH HEATER AND STARTING DEVICE
It has already been proposed, in relation to heavy oil carburettors, to pass the heavy oil with the principal quantity of air over the annular peripheral ribs of a bulky annular body surrounded by an annular wall, but the The heavy oil remained in a relatively thick layer in the grooves between the annular ribs and also on the ribs. Therefore, in order to obtain a sufficient heating effect, it was necessary to heat not only the annular wall 1 from the outside, but
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
also the body ribbed from the inside.
In order to be able to cause the engine exhaust gas streams, the streams constituting the heating medium, to enter and exit at common locations, it was necessary to pass the interior gas stream and the exterior gas stream in the same. direction, that is to say transversely to the fuel flow, which made the assembly complicated and bulky.
The invention consists in that a right-hand thread and a left-hand thread, both of the same pitch, are cut on the outer surface of the ribbed body, at the same places, so that the threads cross after each half-circumference and that one obtains flats at the crossing points. According to the invention, the annular wall which surrounds the annular body is placed without play on the ribs of the threads. However 11 / remains a distribution channel inside the annular wall for each of the flats which face each other. The sprayed heavy oil is introduced into one of these channels with the small amount of air required for spraying and the heavy oil vapors produced by heating exit through the other channel.
The mist of heavy oil is distributed in the grooves of the threads in thin layers which can only go up to the height of the covered ribs. This is also why this mist is sufficiently vaporized when it passes rapidly and an external heating through the paroiannulaire is sufficient.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
As the heavy oil vapors are given off in numerous partial threads flowing in half in the direction of the right-hand thread and the left-hand thread, this result is obtained that the particles of sprayed liquid frequently meet with the small amount. entrained air, that is to say that we obtain a good mixing and an intimate mixture.
It is only after the final vaporization of the liquid particles, that is to say after exiting the rib body, that the main quantity of air is added by suction. Only a relatively small volume of liquid mist mixed with little air and liquid vapor has to be passed through the grooves of the threads. That is why the ribbed body can be made very short in the direction of its axis, so that the entire carburetor takes up very little space.

In the first embodiment (Figs. 1 to 6), the heavy oil (petroleum) enters in the direction of arrow i into the float chamber A, which contains the usual float device a. The oil then enters the frame], in which there is a conical valve, on the rod b1 of which there is a disc whose position can be varied by means of a nut
EMI4.1
hÉ and a counter-ecroūb¯. A spring f acting on the disc b2 tends to keep the valve 1 open. It is regulated so that the quantity of heavy oil which passes between the seat of the valve and the valve 1 roughly corresponds to the quantity necessary for the running of the engine.
The heavy oil which is allowed to pass flows in the direction of arrow 2 in an intermediate pipe 2a and enters a frame F under a sleeve 1 perforated and mounted in this frame. Near the hole j1 of the perforation ± / is a second conical valve j2, the position of which is adjusted exactly by means of a small maneuvering handwheel bearing a graduation in front of which is a fixed index X. valve j4, which is threaded, is screwed into the nut Fi mounted in the frame (µ, This allows
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
fine-tune the amount of heavy oil to spray. The heavy oil then enters a nozzle k of customary construction corresponding to the size of the engine.
At the same time, a little air enters the open channel which comes from the atmosphere, but only the quantity necessary for atomization enters. The mixture thus produced of air and atomized oil enters a small tube 1 which passes through the enveloping chamber d of a heating body D in the form of a hollow ring.
The H-rib body is mounted in the cylindrical inner part of the heater body. This ribbed body is formed by a ring on the outer surface of which are cut a 'no screw on the right and a thread on the left, both of the same pitch and of the same depth. We thus obtain at the crossing points of the threads two flats H1 and H2 which therefore face each other and one of which, for example H1, is located above the mouth of the small tube 1. The mixture of air and fuel sprayed therefore spreads in the free channel formed between the flat H1 of the ring H and the cylindrical inner wall of the frame, to then be distributed on either side in the helical grooves of the threads, grooves which intersect and which are covered by the heating body.?.
The heating body.? comprises on one side an inlet pipe 7 and on the other an outlet pipe .8, these two common pipes with respect to the chamber with the enveloping chamber µ. Gas
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The exhaust coming from the engine and serving as heating fluid is therefore distributed in the two halves of the enveloping chamber, then the partial currents thus formed meet as shown by the arrows.
The interior of the heating body.?, Interior in which the H-ring is mounted, is closed at the rear (fig. 2) by a continuous partition D1 and at the front by a cover! Ç held in place with the H-ring by a central screw L.
Because of the narrowness of the passage channels thus obtained, each atomized heavy oil particle comes into contact with the interior surface of the heating body. or with the grooved outer surface of the H-ring. As these surfaces always have a high temperature, as a result of heating the heavy oil particle is vaporized immediately. However, the lighter hydrocarbons among those of which the The fuel vaporizes on its own, with the heavier hydrocarbons accumulating as a solid residue in the grooves of ring-5, which are occasionally removed by removing the ring and cleaning it. of the hydrocarbon actually obtained therefore has the composition of a heavy oil lighter than that which enters the float chamber A.
One half of the vaporized heavy oil particles pass to the right, and the other half to the left of the H ring, each bypassing one of the halves of this ring and into each of the streams thus produced; half of the particles move in the grooves of the threads of the right-hand thread and the other in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
left-hand thread grooves. The currents meet again on the second flat of the H-ring and continue on their way, passing through a socket after a sudden right-angle deflection.
As a result of the splitting, joining and deflection of the stream of heavy oil particles first pulverized and then vaporized, the partial streams collide violently, resulting in good mixing.
The main air quantity is added by suction 1 through a filter D around the sleeve m, but only after the air has also been deflected at a right angle, a result which is obtained by giving sufficient length to the sleeve m . The fuel vapor jet constitutes the core and the main air essentially constitutes the envelope of the mixture jet which continues its path at 4, so that the fuel vapor is kept substantially away from the walls and any condensation is avoided. unwanted fuel vapor.
When the engine is stopped momentarily after running for a while and after reaching operating temperature, it can be started again immediately by means of the fuel vapor remaining in the carburetor. Light oil should only be used momentarily for the first start or for a new start after a long stop. For this purpose, the heavy oil carburetor described is combined with a light oil carburetor simplified by the elimination of a particular float,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
so that the light oil, which does not require prior heating, enters only behind the H-ring.
Light oil (gasoline) enters through pipe 5 into a valve chamber. 0, the valve c of which is applied to the seat c from bottom to top through a weak outlet. The light oil then passes through an intermediate pipe 6 in a tubing E comprising a precision adjustment needle v which can be operated by means of a small hand wheel v1. The light oil pipe E1 enters from the side into the pipe D3 of the heating body.?, Which pipe exits the oil vapor. This tubing comprises a channel which is first horizontal and which then runs upwards. The upper orifice of this channel is usually closed by a shutter needle $ which replaces the removed float.
This shutter needle is combined with a perforated plate p which can be folded towards the naut and is raised under the action of the suction of the motor, suction which occurs in the direction of the arrow, when the suction depression is not not balanced by the arrival of a heavy oil mixture.
To find out as needed the passage of heavy oil or the passage of light oil in the carburetor, an appendix.! of the frame B of the heavy oil valve carries a suitable lever arm q, one end of which is engaged by a pull rod G leading to the driver's seat. A rod u further articulated on the lever arm q carries a threaded part s. The grooves of the threads on the outside of the part s have a semi-circular section. A
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
similar threaded part s1 is on a rod t articulated on the rod c1 of the light oil valve The two threaded parts and s1 are connected by a coil spring r.
When the rod G is pulled, the lever arm q presses on the protruding end of the rod 32: 1 of the heavy oil valve, so that this valve closes in opposition to the action of the spring f . At the same time, the rod of the ± light oil valve is pulled down in antagonism to the action of the spring g, after which the light oil can flow freely to the outlet port D3 of the heating body begins to act in the heating body.?, we let go of the rod-9.
The spring g then lifts the light oil valve c until the inlet opening closes and at the same time the arm q moves away from the rod 1 of the heavy oil valve 1. This valve b then opens under the action of the spring f.
The mounting of the spring in the communication between the valves and c makes it possible to give the stroke of the rod G a magnitude greater than that of the strokes of the valves 1 and c, so as to ensure the application of these valves on their seats.
The / arrangement represented by FIG. 2 for assembly of the ribbed body. 5 requires a tight seal in three places, i.e. on both sides of the ribbed body and on the outer application edge of the coverK. At each cleaning it is necessary, after removing the cover, to take separately in the hands of ribbed body which is dirty.
This is why, in the embodiment represented by the
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
figs. 7 to 10, the H ribbed annular body is made in one piece with an H cover
In the embodiment represented by FIG. 8 the heating body.? has on its rear closure wall a projection D2 directed towards the front, so that the wall µ does not have a protruding stud at the rear, unlike the embodiment shown in FIG. 2.
The projection D2 engages the screw L, which retains the H ribbed body combined with the HO part forming the cover. Consequently, a sealing washer M and N is sufficient on the rear face of the rib body H and on the rear face of the wall H.The screw L passes through a compartment which is neither filled with mixture nor of heating gas and it does not need a tight seal. The screw.L is preferably connected by a transverse rod L1 to an internal appendage H3 of the part H forming a cover, which makes it possible to screw and unscrew this screw L integrally with the wall. forming cover and body ribs H.
The exit groove, usually made at the end of the screw thread, in the screw connections, at the point where the fixed wall follows, has been deleted in the present case so as not to offer the pulverized fuel. and to the mixture of vapors no path through which they can escape. On the contrary, the screw thread does not go completely up to the wall H forming the cover,
The embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 has another peculiarity which is the following
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
boasts.
In addition to the quantity of main air, an additional quantity of air is also made to arrive so that this additional quantity of air always corresponds to the position given to the throttle valve of the mixture. '
The tubing m, through which the heavy oil vapor ready and mixed with a little air continues its way out of the enclosure discovered by the flat H2 of the rib body H, is screwed by its lower end threaded into the heating body] and it rests on the heating body] at the top by a reinforcement m1 also serving as an engagement part for a key. The main air quantity bypasses the reinforced edge m1 evenly on all sides.
A second body 0 separate from the heating body D is mounted thereon so that the tubing m enters the body 0. The tubing m, on the dimensions of which depends the quantity of main air added to the vaporized heavy oil, is therefore easily interchangeable.
For the exhaust gases coming from the engine, the heater body.? has several inlet pipes P1, P2, P3 etc ... each connected to an engine exhaust pipe. The heating body.? is therefore also used to concentrate streams of exhaust gas which exit together through a tubulurēQ.
Around the tubing m the body 0 has an inner rim which narrows the main air inlet slit and only lets through the required quantity of main air, but which lets it pass to a

considerable speed. In addition, the flange O1 has the effect that the pressure drop between the outside air and the body 0 which communicates with the engine suction pipe, is not completely suppressed.
Immediately above the turbulure m is the fuel inlet frame E, which includes the needle valve V and into which the fuel arrives through the .IL pipe. The inner end E1 of this frame eccentrically passes through the body 0 passing through a perforation covered by a plate .9 and by a fixing flange E2 of the frame E, which flange is traversed by screws E5. The perforated plate ss which carries the needle of the valve is mounted as a lever with two arms in a projection E3 of the end E1 of the frame.
The plaque.? has an extension p2 directed outwards and serving as a counterweight as well as a stroke limiter for the pad. and the needle w.
Thanks to this arrangement the perforated plate. is very mobile.
The throttle butterfly R is mounted directly above the fuel inlet points on a continuous axis S which is extended to the outside by a hollow cylindrical part S1, the end of which is open.
This piece is pivotally mounted on an appendix
Q3 of the frame and has in its wall an opening S2 which is followed by a channel Q4 for additional air.
When little mixing is needed, with the engine running idle or slowly, or during leveling or downhill travel, the throttle R is

partially closed as usual. As a result of the change of position, the hollow cylindrical part S1 closes its opening S2 in the same proportion as the inlet of the channel. Thanks to this arrangement, a purer gas mixture is obtained and a better efficiency when the engine speed increases.
