Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 産業上の利用分野 本発明は、レーザー光線等の手段を用いて情報信号を高
密度に記録することのできる光学的情報記録媒体、とり
わけ書き換え可能なタイプの光学的情報記録媒体に関す
るものである。
従来の技術 ガラス、樹脂等の表面の平滑な基板の上に光吸収性の薄
膜を形成L、その上に微小スポットに絞りこんだレーザ
ー光線を照射して照射部に局部的な変化を生じさせ、こ
れによって情報を記録するという技術は公知である。こ
の際、記録膜として例えばTe、Seをベースとする或
種のカルコゲナイドガラス薄膜を用いることで情報の記
録、消去、書き換えを繰り返し行うことができる。記録
のメカニズムは結晶相とアモルファス相との間の原子レ
ベルでの可逆的構造変化に基づ(光学的な特性の違いを
利用するもので、特定の波長の光に対する反射光量、あ
るいは透過光量の差を信号として検出する。 記録膜層
は繰り返して使用するさいの蒸発等を避ける目的で5i
n2、ZnS等の誘電体層でサンドイッチするのが一般
的であって各層の厚さは光の吸収効率が高(なるように
、同時に変化前後における反射光量または透過光量の差
ができるだけ大きくなるように選ぶ。光の入射するのと
は反対の側の誘電体層の上に更にAu、A1等の光反射
層を追加して変化量を大きくした例もある。
発明が解決しようとする問題点 これまで、上述のいわゆる相変化型の書き換え可能な記
録媒体においては記録用と消去用とで別々のレーザービ
ームを用いて重ね書きくいわゆるオーバーライド)を行
ってきた。この場合には記録時と消去時とでレーザーパ
ワー、照射時間を独立に選ぶことが可能であり、重ね書
きによる特異な問題は生じていなかった。ところが最近
では一本のレーザービームだけで重ね書きする方法(い
わゆるダイレクト・オーバーライド)が提唱され、主流
となろうとしている。この方法は、レーザーパワーを記
録レベルと消去レベルの二段階として、この間で情報信
号に応じて変調L、信号の記録された情報トラック上に
、直接法の信号を書き込んでい(というものである。こ
れによれば光学ヘッドの設計が楽になるといったメリッ
トがある反面、以下のようなデメリットが生じる。すな
わち予め消去するという作業がなされないために、アモ
ルファスの部分に記録する(すなわち再度アモルファス
化する)場合と、結晶の部分に記録する場合とで次の記
録状態が異なるという点である。具体的には記録ビット
の大きさが微妙に変化L、これによって消去したはずの
前の信号成分が残るという問題が生じてきた。前記問題
は、以下の二つの点によって引き起こされるものと考え
られる。一つはアモルファスの部分と、結晶の部分とで
は光学的な吸収率が異なることであり、もう一つはアモ
ルファスの部分と、結晶の部分とでは融解のための必要
なエネルギー(潜熱)が異なることである。
問題点を解決するための手段 アモルファス状態のときと結晶状態のときとで光学的な
吸収率を等しくする、あるいは潜熱の差が大きいときに
は、むしろ結晶状態の方の光吸収率を相対的に高くする
作用 結晶状態における光吸収率をアモルファス状態における
光吸収率と同等、もしくは高(することで、いずれの部
分においてもほぼ同様な昇温プロファイルを得ることが
できビットの大きさを揃えることが可能となる。すなわ
ち高い消去率でオーバーライドが可能になる。
実施例 本発明の光学情報記録媒体は、第1図および第2図に示
すように、PMMA、ボ1ノカーボネイト等の樹脂、A
I、Cu等の金属、ガラス等の表面の平滑な基板1の上
にSiO2、ZnS等の誘電体3でサンドイッチした記
録層2を形成して構成される。レーザー光線の入射する
側とは反対側の誘電体層の上に、更に光反射層4を設け
た構成もある。最上部に保護板を張り合わせることもで
きる。
本発明のポイントは、上記構成において、各層の膜厚を
適当に選び、記録前後の二つの状M(記録状態、消去状
態)における光吸収率を等しくする、または、むしろ相
対的に溶融しにくい状態のほうの光吸収率を相対的に高
くして、いずれの状態においても、時間的、空間的に同
様な昇温プロファイルを得ることにある。第1表中にダ
イナミックな測定を行った実施例の膜厚構成例を、第2
表に記録前後の光吸収率、反射率およびその記録消去特
性を示す。
各構成は以下のような特徴を有している。表中、No、
 1、No、 2、No、 3は記録層が40nmの場
合、また No、4、No、 5、No、6 は記録層
が20nmの場合であって、 それぞれ順番にアモルフ
ァス部での光吸収率Aaと結晶部での光吸収率Abの関
係をそれぞれ、Aa  > Ab、 Aa −Ab、 
Aa  < Ab  とした例である。
測定は15m/secの線速度で周波数7MHz、5M
Hzの、記録を交互にオーバーライドした。レーザーパ
ワーは記録パワーレベル(アモルファス化)12〜20
mW、消去パワーレベル(結晶化)5〜10mW、で行
いこの範囲で最も良好な7MHzでのCNR1消去率の
値を表に掲げた。
第2表 各ディスクの特性比較 この表からアモルファス状態における光吸収率が結晶状
態における光吸収率よりも大きい場合にはCNRは高い
が、十分な消去率が得られないこと、アモルファス状態
と結晶状態との光吸収率が同等か、もしくは結晶状態の
ほうが大きい場合には、高いCNRと消去率を同時に得
ることができることが分かる。
発明の効果 本発明の光学的情報記録媒体によって、−本のレーザー
ビームによるオーバーライドを高いCNRと、高い消去
率を維持したまま行うことが可能となった。

Claims (3)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. (1)光線の照射条件に対応して光学的に検出可能な二
    つの状態間を可逆的に変化しうる記録層を備えた光学情
    報記録媒体において、上記記録層における二つの状態が
    上記照射光線の波長に対して等しい光吸収率を有するこ
    とを特徴とする光学的情報記録媒体。
  2. (2)光線の照射条件に対応して光学的に検出可能な二
    つの状態aおよびbの間を、可逆的に変化しうる記録層
    を備えた光学的情報記録媒体であって、上記二つの状態
    aおよびbをある一定の温度に昇温させるに必要な照射
    光量L、熱量EがLa≧LbまたはEa≧Eb の関係にあるとき、照射光線の波長に対する上記二つの
    状態aおよびbにおける光吸収率AをAa≧Ab としたことを特徴とする光学的情報記録媒体。
  3. (3)光線の照射条件に対応して、結晶相−アモルファ
    ス相間を可逆的に変化する記録層を備えた光学的情報記
    録媒体において、照射光線の波長に対応する光吸収率が
    、結晶相の部分においてアモルファス相の部分と同等ま
    たは相対的に大なることを特徴とする特許請求の範囲第
    2項記載の光学的情報記録媒体。
