Claims (11)
- 1.次式Iで示される、3,6−ジ置換2−ハロピリジン化合物: ▲数式、化学式、表等があります▼I 式中、 R1およびR2は、それぞれ、相互に独立して、15個までの炭素原子を有する アルキル基またはアルケニル基であり、この基は非置換であるか、あるいは置換 基として1個のCN、ハロゲンまたはCF3を有し、そしてまたこれらの基中に 存在する1個または2個以上のCH2基は、それぞれ、相互に独立して、S原子 および(または)O原子が相互に直接に結合しないものとして、−S−、−O− 、−CO−、−CO−O−、−O−CO−または−O−CO−O−により置き換 えられていてもよく、そしてまた基R1および基R2のうちの1つは、ハロゲン 、−CF3、−OCF3またはOCHF2であってもよく、 A1およびA2はそれぞれ相互に独立して、(a)トランス−1,4−シクロヘ キシレン基(この基中に存在する1個のCH2基または隣接していない2個以上 のCH2基は−O−および(または)−S−により置き換えられていてもよい) 、 (b)1,4−フェニレン基(この基中に存在する1個または2個のCH基は、 Nにより置き換えられていてもよい)、 (c)1,3−シクロブチレン、1,3−ビシクロ〔1,1,1〕ベンチレン、 1,4−シクロヘキセニレン、1,4−ビシクロ〔2,2,2〕オクチレン、ピ ペリジン−1,4−ジイル、ナフタレン−2,6−ジイル、デカヒドロナフタレ ン−2,6−ジイルおよび1,2,3,4−テトラヒドロナフタレン−2,6− ジイルからなる群から選ばれる基であり、上記基(a)および基(b)は、置換 基としてCNまたはハロゲンを有していてもよく、 Z1およびZ2は、それぞれ、相互に独立して、−CH2−CH2−、−C≡C −、−CH2O−、−OCH2−、−CO−O−、−O−CO−、−CH=N− 、−CH2S−、−SCH2−または単結合であるか、あるいは炭素原子3〜6 個を有するアルキレン基であり、この基中に存在する1個のCH2基は、−O− 、−CO−O−、−O−CO−、−CH−ハロゲン−または−CHCN−により 置き換えられていてもよく、 Lは、FまたはClであり、 mは、0、1または2であり、 nは、0、1または2であり、 m+nは、1、2または3である。 ただし、a)L=Fであり、そしてR2がハロゲン、CN、−CF3、−OCF 3、OCHF2またはアルコキシである場合には、nは1または2であり、そし て(あるいは)b)L=Fであり、そしてn=1または2である場合には、Z2 は、−CH2CH2−、−C≡C−、−CH2O−、−CO−O−または単結合 である。
- 2.式中のnが1または2であり、そして基A1および基A2のうちの少なくと も1つがフッ素により置換されていてもよい1,4−フェニレン、1,4−シク ロヘキシレン、ピリミジン−2,5−ジイルまたはピリジン−2,5−ジイルで ある、請求の範囲第1項記載のハロピリジン化合物。
- 3.式中、nが0であり、そしてLがClである、請求の範囲第1項に記載のハ ロピリジン化合物。
- 4.式II ▲数式、化学式、表等があります▼II式中、R1、R2、A1、A2、Z1、 Z2、mおよびnは請求の範囲第1項に定義されているとおりであるで示される 化合物の製造において、式IにおいてLがClである化合物を使用すること。
- 5.電気光学表示素子用の液晶相の成分として、式Iで示される化合物を使用す ること。
- 6.少なくとも2種の成分を含有する液晶相であって、少なくとも1種の成分が 式Iで示される化合物であることを特徴とする液晶相。
- 7.カイラル性成分少なくとも1種と非カイラル性成分少なくとも1種とを含有 する強誘電性液晶相であって、少なくとも1種の成分が、式 ▲数式、化学式、表等があります▼ (式中、LはFまたはClである) で示される基を構成要素として有する液晶化合物を含有することを特徴とする、 強誘電性液晶相。
- 8.請求の範囲第1項に記載の式Iで示される化合物の少なくとも一種を含有す ることを特徴とする、請求の範囲第7項に記載の相。
- 9.誘電体として、請求の範囲第6項に記載の液晶相を含有することを特徴とす る、電気光学表示体。
- 10.誘電体として、請求の範囲第6項に記載の液晶相を含有することを特徴と する、請求の範囲第7項に記載のマトリックス液晶表示体。
- 11.強誘電性液晶相、外側プレート、電極、配向層少なくとも1つおよび場合 によりさらに補助層を有する液晶スイッチングおよび表示装置であって、上記相 が、式 ▲数式、化学式、表等があります▼ (式中、LはFまたはClである) で示される基を構成要素として有する液晶化合物少なくとも1種を含有すること を特徴とする、液晶スイッチングおよび表示装置。
