COMPOSITION THERMOPLASTIQUE COMPRENANT UN POLYMERE DE PROPYLENE ET UN COPOLYMERE A BASE D'ETHYLENE ET D'ANHYDRIDE MALEIQUE, ET ARTICLES OBTENUS.
Cette composition est destinée en particulier à la fabrication de films présentant de bonnes propriétés d'adhérence. Elle peut en outre conte- ni des charges minérales et conduire à la fabrication d'articles indus¬ triels présentant une résistance au choc améliorée.
Les compositions de polymères renforcées par des charges minérales sont déjà connues et sont couramment utilisées industriellement; elles per¬ mettent de rendre plus rigides les polymères de base. Ainsi le document EP-A-0000 783 décrit des compositions comprenant :
(A) de 40 à 98 parties en volume d'un polypropylène ayant une cristallini é supérieure à 90 % et un indice de fluidité (mesuré à 230°C sous 2,16 kg) de 0,1 à 20,
(B) de 1 à 50 parties en volume d'un copolymère ayant un indice de fluidité (mesuré à 230°C sous .2,16 kg) de 0,1 à 20, un module d'élasticité en traction selon DIN 53457) inférieur à 1 000 Nmnr2 ainsi qu'une tempéra¬ ture de transition vitreuse inférieure à -20°C, ledit copolymère compre¬ nant :
(a) 100 parties en poids d'êthylène, (b) 5 à 40 parties en poids d'un ester ( êth)acrylique, et
(c) le cas échéant, jusqu'à 10 parties en poids d'acide ( éth)acrylique, et
(C) de 1 à 10 parties en volume d'une charge minérale sous forme de lamelles (de préférence le talc), la somme des parties en volume de (A), (B) et (C) étant égale à 100 parties en volume. De telles compositions permettent de remédier aux inconvénients bien connus (notamment aux températures inférieures à +4°C) du polypropylène cristallin, en procurant simultanément une amélioration du module d'élasti¬ cité en traction et de la ténacité à la rupture (mesurée selon la norme DIN 53443 B).
Le problème posé par la présente invention est tout différent. Dans le cas de compositions chargées oulables, la présente invention vise en effet à améliorer la résistance au choc, en particulier à froid, de ma¬ nière à permettre la fabrication d'articles industriels susceptibles d'être soumis à des chocs. D'autre part dans le cas de compositions non chargées, la présente invention vise à la mise au point de films conservant l'essen¬ tiel des propriétés favorables des polymères de propylene et possédant en outre de remarquables propriétés d'adhérence sur divers substrats.
La présente invention a pour premier objet une composition thermo- plastique comprenant, pour 100 parties en poids, de 1 à 93 parties en poids d'au moins un polymère ou copolymère (A) a base de propylene, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend en outre de 7 a 99 parties en poids d'au moins un co¬ polymère (B) a base d'éthylène et d'anhydride maléique.
Par polymère ou copolymère (A) a base de propylene, on entend un homopoly ère de propylene ou bien un copolymère de propylene et d'une faible proportion (avantageusement inférieure ou égale a 15 % en moles) d'au moins une 01-oléfine possédant au moins 4 atomes de carbone ou de l'éthylène, ob¬ tenu en présence de catalyseurs du type Ziegler. Le taux de cristallinité du polymère (A) est avantageusement au moins égal a 30 % notamment en vue d'ob- tenir une composition ayant une tenue satisfaisante a la température.
Le copolymère (B) peut être obtenu par copoly érisation directe de l'éthylène et de l'anhydride maléïque, par exemple sous haute pression et a haute température, ou bien par greffage d'anhydride maléïque sur du polyé- thylène par tout procédé connu. Il peut en outre comprendre des motifs déri- vés d'au moins un ester de l'acide ( éth)acrylique. Dans ce cas il peut être obtenu par terpoly érisation, par exemple dans les conditions décrites dans les documents FR-A-2.498.609, FR-A-2.569.411 et FR-A-2.569.412, ou bien par greffage d'anhydride maléique sur un copolymère d'éthylène et d'au moins un ester de l'acide (méth)acrylique. Avantageusement un tel copolymère (B) com- prend :
- de 83 a 98,7 % en moles de motifs dérivés de l'éthylène,
- de 1 a 14 % en moles de 'motifs dérivés d'au moins un ester de l'acide (méth)acrylique, et
- de 0,3 a 3 % en moles de motifs dérivés de l'anhydride maléique. L'indice de fluidité du copolymère (B), mesuré dans les conditions standards (190°C, charge de 2,16 kg) de la norme ASTM 1238, est avantageuse- ment compris entre 0,5 et 200 dg/min.
Parmi les compositions selon l'invention, celles qui, pour 100 parties en poids, comprennent de 67 a 93 parties du polymère (A) et de 7 a 33 parties du copolymère (B) peuvent en outre comprendre au moins une charge minérale a raison de jusqu'à 100 parties en poids pour 100 parties en poids du mélange des polymères (A) et (B). Cette charge peut être notamment choi¬ sie parmi les fibres de verret les billes de verre, le mica, le talc, les argiles, les aluminates et silicates, par exemple de calcium, l'alumine, T hydrate d'alumine, le noir de carbone, les fibres de carbone ou de bore, l'amiante, les oxyde, hydroxyde, carbonate et sulfate de magnésium ou de calcium, les oxydes de fer, antimoine, zinc, le dioxyde de titane, le sulfa¬ te de baryum, la bentonite, la terre de diatomées, le kaolin, la silice, le-' quartz, le feldspath. Parmi les compositions selon l'invention, celles qui, pour 100 parties en poids, comprennent de 1 a 67 parties en poids de polymère (A) et de 33 a 99 parties en poids de copolymère (B) sont plus particulièrement destinées a être transformées en films. Pour l'obtention de compositions ayant un ensemble de propriétés satisfaisantes, le rapport de l'indice de fluidité standard du copolymère (B) a l'indice de fluidité standard du polymère (A) est avantageusement com¬ pris entre 1 et 400.
Les compositions selon l'invention peuvent être obtenues selon un procédé choisi parmi :
- élangeage simultané par tout moyen connu, notamment dans un malaxeur ou une extrudeuse, des polymères (A) et (B) et, le cas échéant, de la charge minérale.
- mélangeage d'un mélange-maître de deux quelconques des constituantsde l composition, lorsque celle-ci contient une charge minérale, avec le troi¬ sième constituant de la composition.
- lorsque la composition comprend une charge minérale, mélangeage du polymè¬ re (A) et de la charge minérale préalablement enrobée de copolymère (B), l'enrobage étant obtenu en introduisant la charge dans une solution de co polymère (B),. puis en évaporant le solvant. Des solutions appropriées d copolymère (B) sont obtenues lorsque le solvant est choisi parmi les hy¬ drocarbures aliphatique, cycloaliphatiques et aromatiques ayant de 5 a 12 atomes de carbone, les cétones, les hydrocarbures chlorés, les acétates e les éthers de polyols et que la concentration du copolymère (B) dans l solvant est au plus égale a 15 % en poids.
L'invention a pour second objet des articles industriels compre nant au moins un produit obtenu par transformation d'une composition tell que décrite précédemment. Il peut s'agir notamment de films possédant de propriétés d'adhésion (dans ce cas l'indice de fluidité du copolymère (B) sera de préférence choisi entre 0,5 et 30 dg/min.) ou bien d'articles char gés moulés possédant une résistance au choc améliorée qui les rend particu lièrement intéressants pour toute application exigeant cette qualité, notam ment dans le secteur automobile et pour la fabrication d'articles ménager et industriels. Grâce a la remarquable stabilité dimensionnelle des composition selon l'invention, les films obtenus par extrusion-soufflage desdites compo sitions (d'épaisseur généralement comprise entre 15 et 200 j^ ) peuvent êtr utilisés pour réaliser des collages devant supporter des expositions répé tées a des températures par exemple comprises entre 110* et 130°C. Ils peu vent être soumis -a des traitements ultérieurs, par exemple du type Corona.
Ils peuvent également entrer dans la constitution d'articles d structure complexe tels que des films multicouches obtenus par coextrusion au moyen de filières annulaires ou plates, V(les) autre(s) couche(s) de tels films étant par exemple constituée(s) d'un film d'une matière thermo¬ plastique telle que le polyéthylène basse densité radicalaire, le polyéthy- lène haute densité, le polypropylène, un polyamide ou un copolymère éthylè≈ ne-acétate de vinyle hydrolyse.
Des exemples non limitatifs sont fournis ci-après pour illustre l'invention.
Les normes utilisées pour mesurer les propriétés des produits mis en jeu ou obtenus sont les suivantes :
- norme ASTM D 1238-73 pour l'indice de fluidité standard mesuré a 190ΘC sous 2,16 Kg et exprimé en dg/min. - norme ISO R 179 pour la résistance au choc Charpy exprimée en kJ/m2 et me¬ surée, aux exceptions suivantes près, sur éprouvette non entaillée de di≈ mensions 4x6x50 m 3.
Exemples 1 a 4
Des compositions sont préparées par malaxage a chaud de : - x parties en poids de (A^) un copolymère statistique comprenant 85,6 % en moles de motifs dérivés du- propylene et 14,4 % en moles de motifs dérivés de l'éthylène, ayant un indice de fluidité standard de 0,2 dg/min.
- (100-x) parties en poids de (B) un terpolymère contenant 92,3 % en moles de motifs dérivés de l'éthylène, 6,7 % en moles de motifs dérivés de V acrylate d'éthyle et 1 % en moles de motifs dérivés de l'anhydride maléï¬ que, ayant un indice de fluidité standard de 20 dg/min.
Les caractéristiques des compositions obtenues figurent dans le tableau I. La température Vicat est mesurée selon la norme ASTM D 1525 et exprimée en degrés Celsius. SD est la stabilité dimensionnelle mesurée 115°C selon la norme ASTM D 1204 et exprimée en %. RR est la résistance a l rupture exprimée en MPa et AR l'allongement a la rupture exprimé en %, ces deux grandeurs étant déterminées selon la norme ASTM D 638. F est la tempé¬ rature de fusion exprimée en degrés Celsius.
Les exemples 1 et 4 sont comparatifs. TABLEAU I
La composition de l'exemple 3 est transformée en film de 50 ^Λ d'épaisseur par extrusion-soufflage. Ce film est utilisé pour thermocoller 140°C par calandrage de la mousse de polyuréthane-polyéther et du tissu d polypropylène.
Les forces de pelage suivantes, déterminées selon la norme ASTM 903-49, sont mesurées :
- entre tissu et film : 14 N/5 cm
- entre film et mousse : 7,6 N/5 cm.
Le matériau complexe obtenu conserve sa stabilité dimensionnell même s'il est. soumis a des traitements thermiques a 130βC.
La composition de l'exemple 3 est également utilisée sous forme d film pour thermoformer par compression un assemblage de polyéthylène téré phtalate non tissé et de mousse de polyuréthane semi-rigide selon la techni que de thermocompression a 120βC. Le film est soumis a un traitement Coron de 46 dynes/cm côté mousse.
Les forces de pelage suivantes sont alors mesurées :
- entre film et non tissé : 30 N/5 cm
- entre film et mousse : 10 N/5 cm.
L'assemblage peut être soumis a des traitements thermiques a 130β sans altération de l'adhérence entre couches. Exemple 5 (comparatif)
On prépare une composition constituée de :
- 65 parties en poids de polypropylène commercialisé par la demanderesse sous la marque "N0RS0PRYL MM 4030". - 35 parties en poids de mica commercialisé par le Comptoir des Minéraux et Matières Premières sous le nom "Mica Mw 85".
La composition obtenue présente une résistance au choc Charpy éga¬ le a 18,3 kJ/m2 a 20βC et 10,1 kJ/m2 a -20°C. Exemple 6 On prépare selon les conditions opératoires de l'exemple 5 une composition constituée de :
- 50 parties en poids du polypropylène utilisé a l'exemple 5
- 50 parties en poids d'un mélange-maître constitué de 70 parties du mica utilisé a l'exemple 5 et de 30 parties d'un terpolymère d'indice de flui- dite standard égal a 4 dg/min. et constitué de 89,3 % en moles d'éthylène, 10 % en moles d'acrylate d'éthyle et 0,7 % en moles d'anhydride maléique. La composition obtenue présente une résistance au choc Charpy éga¬ le a 70,5 kJ/m2 a 20βC et 17,7 kJ/m2 a -20°C.

Claims

REVENDICATIONS
1. Composition thermoplastique comprenant, pour 100 parties e poids, de 1 a 93 parties en poids d'au moins un polymère ou copolymère base de propylene, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend en outre de 7 a 9 parties en poids d'au moins un copolymère (B) a base d'éthylène et d'anhy dride maléique.
2. Composition thermoplastique selon la revendication 1, caracté risée en ce que le polymère (B) comprend en outre des motifs dérivés d'a moins un ester de l'acide (méth)acrylique. 3. Composition thermoplastique selon la revendication 1, caracté risée en ce que ledit polymère (B) comprend de :
- de 83 a 98,7 % en moles de motifs dérivés de l'éthylène,
- de 1 a 14 % en moles de motifs dérivés d'un ester choisi parmi les acry lates et méthacrylates d'alkyle, ledit groupe alkyle ayant de 1 a 6 atome de carbone,et
- de 0,
3 a 3 y- en moles de motifs dérivés de l'anhydride maléique.
4. Composition thermoplastique selon Tune des revendications 1
3, caractérisée en ce que l'indice de fluidité du polymère (B) est compri entre 0,5 et 200 dg/min.
5. Composition thermoplastique selon Tune des revendications 1
4, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend :
- de 67 a 53 parties en poids du polymère (A) et
- de 7 a 33 parties en poids du polymère (B).
6. Composition thermoplastique selon la revendication 5, caracté risée en ce qu'elle contient en outre au moins une charge minérale en un teneur allant jusqu'à 100 parties en poids de charge pour 100 parties e poids du mélange (A) + (B).
7. Composition thermoplastique selon Tune des revendications 1 4, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend : - de 1 a 67 parties en poids de polymère (A) et
- de 33 a 99 parties en poids de polymère (B)
8. Composition thermoplastique selon Tune des revendications 1 7, caractérisée en ce que le taux de cristallinité du polymère (A) est a moins égal a 30 %.
9. Composition thermoplastique selon la revendication 7, caracté risée en ce que le rapport de l'indice de fluidité standard du polymère (B a l'indice de fluidité standard du polymère (A) est compris entre 1 et 400.
10. Articles industriels comprenant au moins un produit obtenu pa transformation d'une composition conforme a Tune des revendications 1 *a 9.
