Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled Eu-Ba-Cu-O based composition, capable of exhibiting superconductivity at a temperature above liquid nitrogen temperature and having excellent sinterability, by adding a specific amount of manganese oxide to a principal component and sintering the resultant mixture. CONSTITUTION:An Eu compound (e.g. Eu2O3), a Ba compound (e.g. BaCO3) and a Cu compound (e.g. CuO) in amounts to satisfy the composition formula (Eu(1-x)Bax)3Cu3O7-y (0.3<=x<=0.5mol.; 0<y<1mol.) are respectively weighed and a manganese oxide compound (e.g. MnO2 or MnCO3) in an amount of <=2% based on the total weight thereof expressed in terms of MnO is added. The obtained mixture is then milled and mixed. The mixed powder is subsequently calcined in air atmosphere (e.g. about 900 deg.C for 5hr) to provide a calcined material, which is then pulverized and formed into a compact. The compact is then sintered in air atmosphere (e.g. about 950 deg.C for 10hr) to afford the aimed ceramics composition.
