Abstract

An improved plastic pipe coupling of the straight-pipe fitting type comprises a straight tubular body member and coupling nut members. The improvement resides in the tubular body member having identical and enlarge externally threaded end portions, each having stepped axial bores to define therein an outer bore, intermediate bore and an inner bore with the intermediate bore adapted to snugly fit therein the unthreaded end of a plastic pipe to be coupled. A rubber O-ring gasket and a sleeve pusher is snuggly fitted in the outer bore and in telescopic relation with the plastic pipe. Coupling nut members are adapted to be screwed to the identical end portions of the tubular body member, each of the nut member having a conical inner surface adapted to receive therein a conically shaped pipe grip insert having a cut-out portion and pipe gripping ribs at the inner surface thereof whereby plastic pipes with unthreaded ends are firmly and sealingly held at the end portions of the tubular body member.
