Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture high quality tin-plated copper wire with good efficiency by preventing mechanochemical reaction by the procedure in which a copper or copper alloy wire is plated with lead or a lead alloy and then its outside circumference is plated with tin or a tin alloy, and then the wire is subjected to a drawing process.
CONSTITUTION: A copper or copper alloy wire is plated with lead or a lead alloy of a thickness of 0.1 to 10 microns and then its outside circumference is further plated with tin or a tin alloy of a definite thickness. Then, the wire is subjected to a drawing process to produce a desired diameter wire. Thus, because the dispersion of copper and tin can be prevented by the action of a barrier, a copper intervention layer, provided between copper and tin, the occurrence of a copper-tin compound due to mechanochemical reaction during drawing process can be prohibited. Also, this method saves the consumption of tin and raises the quality of drawn wire.
