Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 技術分野 本発明はシアニン色素を含む薄膜を有する光学的情報記
録媒体に関する。さらに詳しくは、レーザービームによ
り直接記録し反射光の変化によって情報再生を行なう方
法(いわゆる光ディスク)に用いられる光学的情報記録
媒体に関する。
従来技術 従来、色素薄膜を記録層として適用した光学的情報記録
媒体は知られている。(例えば、特開昭56-16948号広
報)。すなわち、この種の光学的メモリ媒体は基板と色
素薄膜記録層との間に金属反射膜を設け、記録層の側か
ら記録層の光吸収率が極大を示す波長のレーザービーム
を集光照射して情報を記録再生するものである。しかし
ながら、かかる光学的情報記録媒体においては色素記録
層の保護が困難であるため記録層に付着した小ゴミなど
によって情報の記録再生に誤りを生じやすいこと及び、
反射型光学的情報記録媒体として利用するためには金属
反射膜が必要であり、媒体の構成が複雑になり、また記
録再生感度が充分でなく、さらに情報記録媒体そのもの
が長期保存に耐えうるものではないという問題がある。
目的 本発明は上記問題に鑑みてなされたものであって、その
目的は反射率、感度(記録再生)及びS/Nが高くしか
も保存性の高い光学的情報記録媒体を提供することにあ
る。
概要 上記目的を達成するために、本発明者等は近赤外光に吸
収のある多くのシアニン色素を種々検討した結果、記録
再生特性と保存性のすぐれた色素を見出した。
すなわち、本発明によれば、基板上に一般式 (式中、R1、R2およびR3は同じかまたは異なってい
てもよくそれぞれはC1〜C6アルキルを表わし、Xはハ
ロゲン、過ハロゲン酸、四フッ化ホウ素、トルエンスル
ホン酸またはアルキル硫酸を表わし、Aはベンゼン環ま
たはナフチル環を表わしそしてそれぞれの環上には置換
基としてアルキル、アルコキシ、ヒドロキシ、カルボキ
シル、ハロゲン、アリル、またはアルキルカルボキシル
があってもあるいはなくてもよくそしてnは2の整数を
表わす)で表わされるシアニン色素を含みかつバインダ
ー及び一重項酸素クエンチャーを含まない厚さ350Å以
上1,000Å未満の薄膜を塗布法により形成したことを特
徴とする、光学的情報記録媒体が提供される。
本発明の光学的情報記録媒体は基本的には基板上に上記
シアニン色素を含む薄膜だけを設けたものであるが、前
記薄膜の上または下には目的に応じて保護層などの他の
層を設けることができる。ここで「シアニン色素を含
む」とは上記一般式で表わされるシアニン色素単独また
はそれと他の色素あるいは化合物との組合せからなるこ
とを意味する。
本発明のシアニン色素は、まず上記一般式によって表わ
されるように2個のピロール環にそれぞれベンゼン環ま
たはナフチル環が縮合した二つの形態のものを包含す
る。特に、本発明のシアニン色素はピロール環の1-位お
よび3-位にC1〜C6アルキル基が存在することを特徴と
している。C1〜C6のアルキル基の例としては、メチ
ル、エチル、プロピル、ブチル、ペンチルおよびヘキシ
ルがあり、メチルまたはエチルが特に好ましい。また、
ベンゼン環またはナフチル環上には置換基が存在してい
てもあるいは存在していなくてもよく、そして置換基の
好ましい例としてはCH3、C2H5、Cl、Br、CH3O、OH、-CH2COOH、
-CH2CH=CH2などをあげることができる。
また、本発明のシアニン色素は2個のピロール環がペン
タメチン鎖(n=2)によって結合されていることを特徴と
もしている。nが0、1あるいは3のものは反射率、記
録再生及び保存性の全ての条件を満たすことができず、
特に波長800nm付近での反射率が劣るので好ましくな
い。
本発明で用いるシアニン色素においてイオン結合を形成
するアニオン(X )の例としては、Cl 、Br
、ClO 、BF 、CSO 、CH
・CSO などを挙げることができる。
以下に、本発明で好ましく用いられるシアニン色素を例
示する。
1-メチル-2-〔7-(1-メチル-3,3-ジメチル-2-インドリニ
リデン)-1,3-ペンタジェニル〕-3,3-ジメチル−インド
リウムヨーダイド、 1-エチル-2-〔7-(1-エチル-3,3-ジメチル-2-インドリニ
リデン)-1,3-ペンタジェニル〕-3,3-ジメチル−インド
リウムパークロレート、 1-メチル-2-〔7-(1-メチル-3,3-ジメチル-2-ベンゾ
〔e〕インドリニリデエン)-1,3-ペンタジェニル〕-3,3
-ジメチル−ベンゾ〔e〕インドリウムパークロレー
ト、 本発明において使用される基板材料は当業者には既知の
ものであり、使用レーザ光に対して透明または不透明の
いずれでもよい。ただし、基板側からレーザ光で書込み
記録を行なう場合は、書込みレーザ光に対して透明でな
ければならない。一方、基板と反対側すなわち記録層の
表面から書込み記録を行なう場合は、書込みレーザ光に
対して透明である必要はない。しかしながら、読み出し
再生を透過光で行なう場合は読みだしレーザ光に対して
透明でなければならない。読み出し再生を反射光で行な
う場合は読み出しレーザ光に対して透明または不透明の
いずれでもよい。基板材料の材質としては、ガラス、石
英、セラミック、プラスチックス、紙、板状または箔状
の金属などの一般に使用されている記録材料の支持体で
よい。特に、プラスチックスが安全性、記録感度向上、
平面性、軽量、加工性などの点から好適である。代表的
なプラスチックスとしては塩化ビニル樹脂、酢酸ビニル
樹脂、アクリル樹脂、メタクリル樹脂、ポリエステル樹
脂、ニトロセルロース、ポリエチレン樹脂、ポリプロピ
レン樹脂、ポリアミド樹脂、ポリスチレン樹脂、ポリカ
ーボネート樹脂、エポキシ樹脂などが挙げられる。
また、基板には必要に応じ凹凸で形成される案内溝を設
けてよいしまた例えば紫外線硬化樹脂などからなる下引
き層を設けてもよい。
本発明におけるシアニン色素薄膜の形成は、塗布法を用
いて行なうことが必要である。
すなわち、塗布法は真空蒸着法に比べその作業工程が簡
便であり、また真空蒸着法のように高温高圧下という過
酷な条件を採用しないため、高温高圧下で分解・解離し
やすい前記一般式(I)で示される色素を記録層に効率的
に含有させることが可能となる。
塗布法に用いる有機溶媒としては例えばメタノール、メ
チレンジクロライド、1,2-ジクロロエタンなどを使用で
きる。塗布はスプレー、ローラーコーティング、ディッ
ピングおよびスピンニングなどの慣用のコーティング法
によって行なわれる。
さらに、本発明の光学的情報記録媒体の要件として、色
素を含む膜の厚さが重要な因子であり、即ち、良好な記
録再生特性を得るには、その厚さを350Å以上1000Å未
満とすることが必要である。厚さが1000Åより大きくな
ると、レーザー光を該膜に照射して情報を記録しようと
しても該膜が穴形成などの物理的変化をおこしにくくな
るので記録が困難となり、たとえレーザ光のパワーをあ
げて物理的変化を起こさせたとしても、照射により除去
された膜部分の色素が多量に飛散し、情報を再生する際
に再生情報のエラー率を高める結果になる。
一方、上記の色素含有膜は、記録された情報を再生する
ためには、好ましくは40%以上の反射率を有することが
必要であり、このような反射率は膜が薄すぎると得られ
ないので、厚さを約350Å以上にすることが必要であ
る。
次に図面を参照して本発明の光学的情報記録媒体の構成
と記録再生方法について説明する。
第1図に示すように、光学的情報記録媒体1は基本的に
は基板2上に前記シアニン色素を含む薄膜3を設けたも
のである。記録と再生には、レーザビーム4を集光レン
ズ5によって色素膜3上に1〜2μmの大きさに集光す
ることによって行なわれる。記録再生ビームは色素膜3
の側から照射してもよいが、基板が透明の場合は基板2
の側から照射する方がゴミの影響を受けにくいという利
点がある。情報の記録は、レーザ光の熱作用による色素
膜へのピット形成によって行なわれ、情報の再生は、ピ
ット形成部と非ピット形成部からの反射光の差を検出す
ることによって行なわれる。また、別の態様として図示
していないが、同一構成の2枚の記録媒体1を色素薄膜
3,3同士を対向して配置することも可能であり、こうし
た場合には色素薄膜3は外気と遮断され、ゴミの付着、
キズの発生、有害ガスとの接触から保護できるため保存
性は著しく向上する。この際、色素薄膜3は基板2によ
って保護されるので記録情報が物理的化学的作用によっ
て損なわれることがない。
本発明の情報記録媒体に適用されるレーザ光は使用色素
の吸収波長に応じて選択する必要があるが比較的安価な
He-Neレーザまたは半導体レーザが好ましい。
実施例 以下に比較例と共に実施例を掲げて本発明をさらに説明
するが、これに限定されるものではない。
情報記録媒体は以下の表に構造式で示したシアニン色素
を所定の溶媒に溶解しこの溶液を回転塗布機によって所
定の基板(アクリル樹脂:三菱レイヨンアクリライト)
(厚さ1mm)上に所定の厚さで塗布し乾燥することによっ
て作製した。このようにして作製した情報記録媒体の耐
光寿命は戸外の1/100の照射光を受ける場所に保存され
たときの値で示してあり、光学濃度が初期値の50%まで
低下するに要した年数であらわした。耐光テストには54
000ルックスのタングステン光を35±3℃の条件で照射
する促進試験方法を用いた。それらの結果を以下の表1
にまとめて示す。
次に、実施例1で使用したシアニン色素を代表例とし
て、本発明の記録媒体における色素薄膜の膜厚と反射特
性及びC/Nを測定した。その結果、膜厚350Å以上におい
ては、反射率40%以上が得られ、反射型の光学的情報記
録媒体として満足すべき光学特性を示していることが明
らかとなった。
比較例1及び比較例2のように本発明と同様なシアニン
色素を用いてもバインダーを含むものは反射率が各々13
%及び14%程度であって、反射型の光学的情報記録媒体と
しては不充分であった。
また、比較例3、及び比較例4のように本発明とは異な
るシアニン色素を用いたものは反射率が各々19%及び34%
であったが、耐光寿命が1.5年及び0.8年であって、保存
性に劣ることが判った。
また、参考例1及び参考例2のように、前記一般式にお
いてnが3の色素を用いたものは反射率が各々19%、32%
程度であって、本発明品(n=2)に比べて反射特性がやや
低下することが判った。
次に波長790nmの半導体レーザビームを1.54μmにしぼ
って記録周波数0.6875MHzでピット間隔1.8μm(ピット
長0.9μm)で記録して再生し、再生信号をスキャンニ
ングフィルタのバンド幅30KHzでスペクトル解析した
(タケダ理研製トラッキングスコープTR4110使用)デー
タを示す。記録レーザパワー4mWにおいては、膜厚350〜
1000Åの範囲でC/N47dB以上が得られ、膜厚450〜750Å
においてはC/N50dBが得られた。
効果 本発明の色素膜からなる光学的情報記録媒体は粒状性の
全くない均一な膜が得られるため反射率が高く、またC/
Nが高く、また保存性がよいため実用性にすぐれ、また
塗布により記録膜を形成できるので製造性がよいという
利点を有する。

  1. 【請求項1】基板上に一般式 (式中、R1、R2およびR3は同じかまたは異なってい
    てもよくそれぞれはC1〜C6アルキルを表わし、Xはハ
    ロゲン、過ハロゲン酸、四フッ化ホウ素、トルエンスル
    ホン酸またはアルキル硫酸を表わし、Aはベンゼン環ま
    たはナフチル環を表わし、そしてそれぞれの環上には置
    換基としてアルキル、アルコキシ、ヒドロキシ、カルボ
    キシル、ハロゲン、アリル、またはアルキルカルボキシ
    ルがあってもあるいはなくてもよくそしてnは2の整数
    を表わす)で表わされるシアニン色素を含みかつバイン
    ダー及び一重項酸素クエンチャーを含まない厚さ350Å
    以上1,000Å未満の薄膜を塗布法により形成したことを
    特徴とする、光学的情報記録媒体。
